India putting together a nice partnership at the moment.

Embarrassingly empty stadium.
I prefer drinking decent beer on my couch rather than $8 half strength Monteiths.
Since when could you get Monteiths at Westpac?

@westcoastie we seem to be transfixed with all rounders who should struggle for selection on their best skill. But adding a 2nd chance skill makes in worthwhile. Arguable. maybe for the World Cup they are throwing the net wider for longer.
-
@kev we should have no more than two. Probably one who is there mostly on batting merits maybe - the other on bowling. So probably all of Munro, CDG, Neesham, Santner (Anderson, possibly Astle who is listed as a Batsman on Cricinfo wtf?)- we should pick only two of these.
More specialists plz -
Also, why have Todd Astle in the team if hes not going to bowl? Munro doing his best Gavin Larsen impersonation today. Now would be the time to pull him out of the attack before he goes for 18 in an over or something dumb
-
@westcoastie on a pitch doing plenty, our backup bowlers have applied no pressure. Disappointing I think. And now dropped catch.
-
So predictable...

More specialists plzI don't think we can look at it quite like that.
I reckon Santner is our best spinner (top two minimum) who happens to be able to hold a bat.
Munro is an opening batsman who can roll his arm over in a crisis.
Neesham is our best option to bat 6, who is also a useful bowler (if he could bowl a more consistent line!).
de Grandhomme is probably a genuine allrounder, but in a "half-baked" way - in that he's not good enough in either discipline to command a place, but together his batting and bowling make him useful to bat at 7 and share 10 overs with Neesham.
-
Munro was actually a mid-order batsman until a couple years ago. Munro-Guptill doesn't work.
Our spin options - wow - not sure whos where. I don't think Santner is a wicket taker, but hes great at containing. Sodhi doesn't build pressure for long enough, but might pick up the wickets. Haven't seen enough of Astle. Should've given Ajaz a go.
I think Neesham would be in our best XI. CDG and Southee are pretty much like for like. Similar pace, similar batting.
We have a few gaps in our squad don't we...

Henry had bowled well. And still up at 139.5km/hr with his last ball.
-
fucksakes
-
appalling end to the innings from the BC's
-
@westcoastie Southee is much better bowler than CDG. CDG a better bat. Neesham showed today why his bowling can’t be relied on. He was awful bowling both sides of wicket. We had them on the ropes and that 10 over period after the front liners led to a competitive total being set.

Since 2016:
Tim Southee (bowling) 39 innings, 44 wickets, 43.6ave, 5.57rr, 46.9 s/r
CDG (bowling) 24 innings, 16 wickets, 47.6ave, 5.08rr, 56.2 s/rTim Southee (batting) 30 innings, 15.8 ave, 103sr, 55* hs, 3x ducks
CDG (batting) 18 innings, 27.6 ave, 104sr, 74* hs, 1 x duckCDG a better batter by 12 runs per bat, bowling, remarkably similar.
Southee living off past deeds. -
@westcoastie Southee has done a lot more bowling at death. Stats miss a lot of things.
-
@westcoastie fair point, he is struggling at the moment and won’t gain pace. But issue is the others are not demonstrably better. Rather have him as my change bowler than others - especially for England. Today was a great day for seamers. Hard to say that apart from Boult and Henry (who I like and just needs some games) the others were up to scratch. 2 out of 5 bowlers.
