@Stargazer or they could try policing the current offside lines better...that would be a nightmare.
Refs cop enough shit with current rules and have a tough enough job as it is without making it harder.
-
@taniwharugby Yeah, my thoughts exactly. WR should really stop changing the rules all the time. It's confusing enough as it is; if they keep on changing the rules, nobody knows what they are anymore. I actually feel sorry for the refs.
-
@Stargazer not to mention the lack of genuine assistance they get from, er, the Assistant Refs.
Ref is checking off sides, gates, last feet, hands, where ball is, other team off side, has the 9 picked it up...
AR is looking to see if someone grabbed someone's Jersey or pushed someone.
-
The ARs are responsible for more offside calls away from the breakdown during a game than the refs are. I listen to Sports Ears at SR games, and always listen to the ref's feed. You regularly hear communication from the ARs to the ref, although sometimes the ref chooses to ignore the advice. The RWC wouldn't be any different.
My biggest criticism is that the ARs don't tell the ref enough when the opposition defensive lines are offside from rucks, or players are in front of kickers. If those of us at the game can see this clearly so should the officials!

I personally think that if we’ll have only one ref, we should have four linesman - two upfield on touch and two inline with the defense on offsides.

England could be the biggest beneficiaries of this typhoon assuming their game is cancelled. I think the forecast for the Japan v Scotland game is not looking too bad and that game will be played. From having to play five tier 1 teams on consecutive weekends, England could now be the team which is the least fatigued going into the knockouts. France too but they realistically have very little chance of progressing much further than the quarters.

Susie's on holiday

Daily Mail reporting it and others picking it up.
So who knows if it's true.
England v France cancelled.

Works out well for an England team potentially without Billy V and Farrell.
It effectively gives them two weeks off to prepare for the crunch games. They will be the freshest team going into the knockouts which is kind of ironical considering all the pre wc talk was about how fatigued England were going to be come semifinal time.

They're still going to lose to Australia

Doubt it. The Wallabies haven't beaten England since 2015 so I question if they can overcome that self doubt that surely must exist. Would be fantastic if it happened though.

Australia have one really good game in them.
It's either this one or the SF

Perhaps they used it up in Perth?
