@rotated So the qualification for whether you are an all-rounder is how shit your team mates are.....?
......You know who doesn't? Andrew Flintoff who comes in with a mere 8 in 79 fucken tests!
That's one more than Joel Garner, who only got 7 in 58 tests.
He did have a bowling average a fraction under 21 though.
Holding only got 13 five wicket bags. Andy Roberts got 11. Colin Croft just 3.
Malcolm Marshall, however, got 22 - so he was marginally better than Cairnsie - though his bowling average was only fractionally better than Joel Garner - who may have been more shit than Flintoff!
Yeah I kinda realised that after posting it.....Garner had some odd stats for a true great of the game. I guess he was victim in one sense of there only being 10 wickets to take and having to share with the opening bowlers. Obviously he always chipped in with 2-40 or 3-60 type performances.
Flintoff is still fucken overrated though.

I'd include wicketkeeper-batsmen as all-rounders since they're selected on their ability in two areas of the game.
First of the really good ones in that bracket was probably Alec Stewart.
And Andy Flower - Stewart was originally a batsman who became keeper later.

Alec Stewart was always one of my favourites back in the day. He does hold the dubious distinction of being the only guy with over 8000 test runs to average under 40 but still.....
-
Adam Milne still a contender.

@Gunner Not a hot favourite, but if he can stay fit and is bowling fast then I'd rather him than several currently ahead of him.
I'd take a fit Milne over Ferguson. But Milne is seriously running outta time while Ferguson has an opportunity VS India to seal his spot.
-
Looks like Blundell will make the squad as the back up keeper/batsman. Anderson is injured again and so is Milne.

Murphy's Law comes into play - bugger.
This is the next rung down on KW/Rossco/Boult getting injured. Not fucken good.

Yeah we don't have the depth to cover any injuries really. Latham has been in really good form in the middle order of late.
-
Tell him to cut it off, thatβs what Jacob Oram considered doing back when he did the same thing.

Agreed. Our top team is brilliant but a couple of injuries and we look fucken vulnerable and unproven.
-
England has been running up some massive scores. If the pitches are roads it will probably suit us.
Our boys can slog away with the best of them - and if all bowlers are cannon-fodder, the fact that most of ours aren't as good as what some of the other teams have won't matter as much.
-
I am less optimistic about our chances when the Aussies can afford to leave Josh Hazlewood at home.
-
@mariner4life That makes me more optimistic! Would have been one of the first names on my list if I'd been choosing.
How many Marshes did they squeeze in?
Heard Neil Manthorpe on the radio picking a final four of India, England, NZ and SA. He thought the weight of expectation will sink England and India in the semis and he was predicting NZ to beat SA in the final.
Delusional really.
I'm predicting Australia to beat someone in the final - probably England if I'm pressed.

England are really fucking good at this format now, after being a joke 4 years ago.
India are really fucking good at this format period.
Australia never go away. (i can't believe they didn't pick Hazlewood, that's an insane selection decision).
I would be astounded if we won a semi. I think not making a semi would be seen as a failure. Any more a success.
