@JK yeah I saw that, massive result for them.
While thier decision to play in the NH comp is finally paying off, it has been at the detriment of the local comp...I know plenty were (still are) against the decision to allow them to do it.
-
@taniwharugby Has it had any detriment to boys making themselves available for the 1st XV considering all the travel involved each week? Think I read reports last year that some may have shied away from playing because of that.
-
Travel from whangarei to the shore is the same as playing anyone from mangonui and a touch longer than bay of islands 20 more than rodney. Up north you travel 40 minutes to play.
The northland 1st xv comp is a shambles with clubs interfering, schools not comitting and structure changing.
-
@Higgins I had heard of a few players not wanting to play, with travel as one of the factors (which I guess is exaggerated somewhat with the inclusion of Manurewa)
But it has affected the local comp more than anything I think, with an all but non-existant proper 1st 15 Comp now.

@Hooroo Yes, it was indeed a good game. I'm particularly happy with another good 10 developing in the Bay (Latrell Smiler-Ah Kiong). He can also play halfback and is, apparently, also good in basketball. Only 17 years old, and IIRC this is his second year in Hastings Boys' 1st XV squad. Hopefully, he doesn't get poached by another province.
In that Hastings Boys squad is also Cooper Flanders, a younger brother of Devan Flanders, and also a number 8. I think he's still in Year 11.
Add some promising midfielders in Jayden Stok (played on the wing last year), Jack Sheridan (both Napier) and Jordan Thompson-Dunn (Hastings); a good Napier frontrow and Hastings backrow.

Played on Wednesday in rather challlenging weather
Rongotai College 15 - 05 St Patricks College Silverstream
Rongotai College currently lead the Premier 1 points table, four ahead of Scots College with Silvertream and St Patsd Kilbirnie an additional one and two points respectively further back (but the last three with a game in hand). Final round before the semis is this weekend. -
Hamilton BHS and Hastings BHS played in the top of the table Super 8 clash today. Final score was 26-3 (HT: 12-3) to Hamilton. It was a game where the team playing into the strong wind had the better of each half. Both teams defended very well but Hamilton had an advantage in the forwards. The Hastings centre was sent off with about 10 mins to go for a nasty tip tackle where the ref had little choice.
They will meet again in the Super 8 final next Saturday.

Wow, that was a hiding really. Hopefully Hastings can reverse it in the final.
