I would have loved to jet over there and catch a couple of games, and was even planning to earlier in the year, but fuck the costs of flights, quite frankly.
I doubt whether I can head up tp games, my only little thing is I have signed up tp Spark Sport to follow the tournament, I will then drop it again. This is from someone who has never been in raptures over women's rugby, but feel I want to support it where I can etc.
-
For those that don't want to pay for Spark Sport there is a free to air option of 8 games including all NZ Pool matches
Edit: FTA in UK is via ITV (some on ITV, some on ITV4)
-
For Australia the games are being shown on Stan.
I believe there are also going to be some games showed in Aus on Free to Air (e.g. 9Gem).
-
NB: the TV3 option is delayed except for the semis and final.
One month of Spark will get you to the semis.

Side rant: as an admin for a small club, we've got a womens 7s side that has had varying degrees of success and participation the last 3 seasons (thanks COVID and Gen Z bitchiness). TBH we lack the volunteers to give it a full go, and the competition they play in is tournament Sundays where the mens play Saturdays.
I'm also a Board member for our Suburban comp and we've identified womens as very important to get going on Saturdays and play alongside the mens. Either as 7s (maybe longer halves) or 10s.
I have refereed a couple of the womens Sunday tournaments this year, as well as running one at our club. Every time the tournament notice goes out, clubs are told they need to supply an AR. The ones that usually do are Subbies clubs. Premier don't even give a fuck enough to supply more than a manager/coach on the day, and they're the fluffybunnies with all the money.
The Premier Rugby Board just expects everyone to turn up and fall over themselves to be part of their great "grassroots" rugby, instead of actually finding the means to make their operations sustainable. They've got no idea what grassroots means, they just wave the word around and complain that nobody funds their shitty product.
So things haven't changed since my days being involved over there NTA.
Except it is shrinking

Runners-up is an optimistic prediction. Everything will depend on how the SF match-ups pan out. For the BFs and every other team, that means avoiding England. But France won't be easy either. Maybe England and France end up playing each other in one SF, which wouldn't say much for the integrity of the format as they are in the same pool.

Lol world rugby and integrity of format at world cups.
This is the same bunch that seed 3 years before the comp for the men and end up with the top 4 teams on the same side of the draw
-
@Machpants A different argument here. You're getting 8 teams for the QFs from only 3 pools, which will be seeded based on the position they finished in their respective pools and most competition points scored.
Even with the absurd early seedings at the RWC, there is still winner and runner-up from each pool so you know your path through the play-offs.

Don't think that will happen. Basically we need France to be ranked 3rd after the pools if we want an 'easy' semi. One of Canada or USA is likely to rank third though unless there is an upset.
I think I wrote this earlier but quarter finals are based on overall points from pool play rather than position in pool.
NZ could top the quarters ranking as they could rack up 3 big wins but England or France are potentially hamstrung by playing each other (as are Canada and USA)
At a rough prediction I would think the quarter ranking may be
NZ
England
Canada
France
Australia
USA
Fiji
WalesIf that is the case the organisers won't be too happy as three of the four quarters will be rematches
NZ v Wales
England v Fiji
Canada v USA
France v AusThe RWC website doesn't explain how the semi finals order will go but I am expecting that it is ranking from pools again as the quarters are numbered 1-4 but NZ plays in 2 irrespective of position as a match venue thing.
There is also the possibility that England clock up such big scores in their pool that they top the ranking and push us into a preferred lighter semi. They would need a bigger win v France than we get against Aus though.

Be prepared for ads on ITV app. I have also had issues in the past with ITV app (on Firestick) as their ad server goes looking for tailoring info and can 'freeze'
A possible solution is via Chrome on laptop as there is a 'Streamlocator' add on (google it) which is free. You do need to sign up for ITV but that is fairly easy in that you really only need a postcode.

Saw the USA ladies smashing it up whilst walking the dog. There was security, drones, you name it! Looking forward to Sunday

SA are such a bizarre side.
Zero rugby smarts, but look to be excellent at scrum, lineout, breakdown.
Attacking play looks like it's derived from watching under 11s though.

Are we talking about their women's team now?
-
Weird to hear the ref telling Saffa ball runners to stay up.on pick and go's. What?
-
Come on Scotland !
-
Fiji very entertaining so far.

Referring to the second player who will clean out.
I've just finished the first half of that game and the standard of play is ok considering the short history of women's rugby, but the refereeing is not.

Fiji still in it approaching half time v England, 17-7. Taniwha on TV, RWC on phone

England expertly slowing down Fiji ball at the breakdown, bodies all over the Fiji side and the tackled player.
Ref no clue, not even a mention.
-
Waisale Serevi's Daughter playing lock for Fiji.
-
Fitness levels from a professional side kicking in now but Fijiana have shown England up a few times in skills and breaking their defence. Good news for us.
England will run away on the scoreboard now but it is more to do with an ability to play 80 than just skill.
Good that Fuji made them go to the forward drives to get ascendency too as we have had a good look at how they set their mauls. -

I'm 5 minutes in and it's clear this ref is even worse than Game 1

I think I got some spittle on the telly when she eventually penalised someone for it in the second half. A Fijian.

22 minutes in. England haven't been back 10m once on Fiji quick tap. Ref is oblivious.
-
It's sad that they don't use the best refs rather than all women

Where do they find these anthem singers. She can't control her breathing it's fucking awful.

How is a sell out, this?
The occasion was massive but equally intense. A world record crowd of 34,235 for a women’s rugby match packed in Eden Park was expectant of the host nation at their first World Cup in New Zealand
As I suggested in the match thread, are people buying tickets to not go? Or was there 12k+ people that went to the first two games but didn't stay?

There were a lot of tickets handed out as comps to schools by sponsors. I guess that not all of the kids had parents that could take them.

A lot of bullshit spotued all around then. Makes NZR etc look dumb to go off about the awesomeness of, and demand for, womans rugby, and get 2/3. Honesty would be a better policy, 30k sold 17k given away, or whatever.
I was really shocked when I turned the game on

Look at it this way. They drummed up a much bigger crowd than was originally planned for. There was some hype to get the saleable seats sold but they managed it.
You are quite negative about this tournament I must say. Did a women’s player turn you down once or something 😀 -
Their defence looked fairly easy to open up with the highlights that I have watched.
Obviously have a better structure to their play and the rolling maul will be very hard to stop.

Yep I not sure it's a bad thing where defence isn't everything in a game. Much like how the game used to be played when it was at it's best. Not suggesting no defence, but let's face it , it's to the detriment of our game where you win games etc by not having the ball..

- I think the girls are getting stuffed by the decision to only have female refs. None of them are up to the standard of the players. I think there's just one female full time ref in the world, and it'll take a major choke by England for her to get the final. Although maybe that's why the games are so fast, they just let everything go!
- When you see multiple articles, and hear multiple mentions of the sell out, and literally the first thing I see on turning on is an almost half empty stadium, it was an instant excitement killer. It's always worse when something is hyped, massively so (like a dozen articles about it in my feed, more than there were about the actual game), then fails to achieve anywhere near what was promised.
I'm off to watch 3 live games today, so no I'm not negative about it, but I am critical of those things above
