New Sixers roster looks really good so far - a couple of wins against Denver and the Lakers now in the books.
Fuck the rest of the NBA, the only thing I'm actually interested in this season is who wins the Eastern Conference (and then loses in five to the Warriors).
You can barely separate the four teams at the moment, while the Pacers sans-Oladipo will still hang around...
The East was good fun before the close of the trading, it's even more now.
Spurs had a shocking weekend. Rested their best players v the Warriors to keep them fresh for their other two games, which they got smoked in as well.
-
So, the Warriors look a little shaky, dropping 2 of their last 3, including to a Harden-less Rockets. Is there a glimmer of hope?
Spurs on a horror road trip, in which they are 1-5, going from pushing for 5th to in the battle just to make the 8.
It was an interesting discussion on The Jump this morning, Spurs are rebuilding, is it actually helping them by trying to win all the time? The team has two good players, and a bunch of okay ones, and a great coach (ssshhh Baron) but that is enough to make you a treadmill team. Is that enough?
Although, maybe they are tanking seeing as the lost to the fucking Knicks.
-
Upset day. Rockets just got over the Hornets. Then Wizards beat the Nets, Hawks beat the T-wolves, Heat beat the Warriors, and the Bulls beat the Grizzlies. Mavs leading the Pacers deep in to the 4th as well. Imagine what that multi would have paid?

Deeeeeeeeee Wade for threeeeeeeeee
Heat with Wade and Dragic off the bench played well.
-
Blazers over the Celtics, who've dropped their fourth game in a row. Big alarm bells ringing there, and it now looks like Kyrie might leave.
It's been a bizarre fall. This was supposed to be their coronation year, where Hayward gets fit and Tatum becomes a superstar. Instead they've gone backwards, and they don't have any more Brooklyn picks to save them...

Wade is having a pretty decent little season.

He is. Probably could go another. Dirk on the other hand....

Bogut back to the Warriors for the rest of the season

Hope he lasts longer than 60 seconds this time

Lakers lose to the Clippers and fall further out of the finals race. They looked horrible in the last quarter, no heart at all.
Turns out signing a bunch of lunatic veterans to fill out their roster might not have been a great idea after all.
This could hurt Lebron's legacy - he doesn't seem like a great team-mate, and he looks to be gunning to get another coach sacked.

LBJ has always divided opinions, and dramatically as well. But this season he has really upset a lot of people. There are a heap of fans unhappy with his chucking his teammates under the bus, and his lack of (public) leadership. Add in the Lakers now sucking and it's painted a massive target on him.
The Lakers fell apart right around the time they tried to shop their entire roster to get another superstar in to help.
Lakers have a lot of fans, and they are pretty entitled, so this was never going to go well for him if they didn't succeed in some way.

My Clippers are gunning for the playoffs. A nice 7 seed and they could be a banana skin for the Nuggets.
Lou Williams, Mr 4th Quarter - a pro scorer that averages 20 off the bench. The Man.

Just as an aside, I find the whole 'starters vs bench' thing completely pointless in the NBA. There is no real relevance to who starts the game, but who finishes the game is everything.
Lou Williams is a case in point. Yeah he's not out for the opening tip but you know he'll be out there in crunch time.

Coaches approach it quite differently when it comes to starting unit and then having the right combos in that second unit.
A coach like Doc Rivers will play 9, sometimes 10 guys in the first quarter and then have his finishers. That has been up and down who those finishers are since the trades, but two bench guys in Lou and Montrezl are there with Gall. They have Shamet the rookie being a go to scorer so he’s demanding playing time at the end.

Upset of the season yesterday as my Suns beat the Bucks. We also beat the Lakers a few days ago. Three wins out of the last four games after dropping close to 20 in a row.

it's weird, it's like Zion Williamson got hurt, so all the tanking teams started trying again.
-
With the new draft lottery odds, there aren't really incentives to tank super hard. As long as you're in the bottom three teams it's all good.
The Suns are still firmly in that mix, with the Knicks, Cavs and Bulls. Still four wins back of the Bulls so they can always hit the brakes if they get to that point.
-
So the best laid plans of the two most storied NBA franchises are going a little awry. I don't know why the other teams are so jealous these days, the C's haven't won since 2008 and LA haven't since 2010. Now if LA end up in the lottery and snare the #1 pick in the draft then they can call foul

The Suns wouldn't pick him anyway. They seem to have a policy of not selecting the most NBA ready player.
