U18 news:
Players named for 2019 Crusaders Junior Knights Development Camp
Over 70 promising teenage players from across the Crusaders region have been selected for the Junior Knights Development Camp next month. The camp, organised in conjunction with New Zealand Rugby, will run from July 7β July 10 at St Andrew's College in Christchurch. It provides an opportunity for emerging talent to learn from BNZ Crusaders and provincial union coaches and development staff, and is not limited to rugby training and skills. Educational elements of the camp include personal development, nutrition, mental skills and well-being. Two squads will be chosen at the conclusion of the camp; one will travel to Timaru to play a Highlanders U18 side on Friday 12 July at Alpine Energy Stadium, whilst the other will head to Blenheim to play a return fixture from 2018 against the Chiefs U18 team on Saturday 13 July at Landsdowne Park. Both matches are scheduled for 12:30pm kick-offs.
See the media relase for the list.

Hearing the Jordie Barrett to the Crusaders Rumour again.Plus Shannon Frizzell yet to re -sign for The Highlanders.Rumour around he could be Taufua's replacement at the Crusaders.
I hear Jordie is waiting to the Season ends and his Brother to decide where he is going.. -

The Crusaders should book a fancy restaurant for their team victory party and get arranging a ticker-tape parade for after Final for their fans. I can't see any of the other three teams left in the tournament standing in the way of a Crusaders threepeat.
Apparently the Jaguares are going to stomp all opposition like a latin Godzilla.

@Chris Jordie to the Crusaders? Geez, that really sounds like backline overload. Some players are going to get very little game time. Either Jordie or Havili could replace Crotty at 12; but that would keep Goodhue at 13 and Ennor .... on the bench? How often would Jordan play? And Punivai? And Leicester Faingaanuku? Even more so if Reece and/or Mataele stay as well.
-
@Stargazer Totally agree I can see Frizzell As there is plenty of space for game time. Not fussed on Jordie I think Ennor re-signed with the hope he would play centre with Goodhue at 2nd Five I would rather see that.Havilli could cover 2nd five when needed to give Jordan some time at FB.We are better off developing a young MF to replace Crotty.

So assuming the Jordie move happens the backs would be
Halfbacks
Hall
Drummond
EnariFirst five
Mo'unga
CameronMidfield
Goodhue
Havili
Ennor
PunivaiOutside backs
Bridge
Mataele
Reece
Faingaanuku
Jordan
BarrettReece in for Dagg
Barrett in for CrottyBarrett would have to work hard to keep out Jordan and Havili. He's got the talent and maybe it would be good for his game? On other hand, 12 is wide open if he wants to play in midfield. But if he doesn't he risks being pushed there by Jordan or Havili.
This years initial squad had seventeen backs, so two more spots still open (assuming Bateman is gone), presumably for a third ten and a midfield wing utility.

We did develop him. His game has gone backwards since he left chch for Wellington
-
@SammyC if the Canes are good at one thing itβs developing backs. If Jordie does move it will be shit for Super Rugby. I donβt think it will happen.
I think he is just delaying re-signing with the Canes so he can demand more money once his bro leaves.

Two discussions going on, can I just add that club finals day at Lancaster Park were epic. Busloads of us Sydenham juniors running amok behind the Canterbury Draught stand. Resurfacing just before fulltime to invade the pitch to congratulate our Blue and Red heroes on another Championship.
Kerr and Maunsell were a heck of a midfield, too. Remember getting a pack of Salt & Vinegar chips from Kerr up at he clubrooms for getting player of the day. Huge moment in an 11-year-old's life.
Didn't Maunsell attempt to be the world's first Maori astronaut?

Wiremu Maunsell was a great player, and had a fucking rad name too.

For some reason, probably because of the name Wurzel and your avatar pic of Wurzel I always thought you were older.
Similarly, I got an award from Peter Winterbottom who used to play in Hawkes Bay in the 80s. That was awesome, he was the player I wanted to be back then - well for about 3 or 4 years and then MJ came along.

βIβm a Christchurch boy nowβ
Great to hear hopefully it means we have him signed up for next season soon.
Apparently the Crusaders have Paula Bale helping out as a mentor for Sevu. When I heard that it brought back some fond memories
Fond memories involving Paula Bale?? That was a terrible era for Canterbury. Do you also have fond memories of Steve Cleave??
Yes, unlike some I'm not a fairweather fan
So you ENJOYED that era? Blerk. Was it the coming last in the South Pacific Championship that spun your wheels? Losing to King Country maybe?? That farcical RS challenge involving Phil Cropper???
Hideous times. But I saw it all.
How about this for a stunning XV from the early 90s? What an array of talent...one really good AB, one ok one and one ordinary one and that's about it. Not saying this team ever took the field together, but wouldn't be far off...
Philpott
Bale
Cleave
Maunsell
McCormack
Kerr

LoeYeah I did, probably because I was the age where going to the rugby and getting some hot chips and a coke was a big deal. I was at every home game as all junior club members got free tickets in those days.
Some great names in that squad, Wiremu Maunsell was an absolute legend for Sydenham.
Dion Kerr perhaps the most talented (and dirtiest) rugby player I've ever seen. Would puff a cigarette in the sheds before running out and again straight after the game
I made my mum sew a number 6 on my Canterbury jersey because I wanted to be Andy Earl.
I have the name Darren Perfect stuck in my head. I see he played 50+ games for Sydenham. Can anyone recall his position and his era in the Canterbury team?
