Annual Bramble Bank cricket match in middle of Solent

Tony Greig's pitch report would have been interesting!

    alt text

The annual Bramble Bank cricket match took place in the middle of the Solent in the early hours of Sunday 15th July. The sandbank near Cowes, off the Isle of Wight becomes visible once a year at the lowest tide. The event has been taking place since the 1950s. This year the Royal Southern Yacht Club from Hamble and the Island Sailing Club from Cowes gathered for the game along with a number of spectators who also braved the tide.

As usual, play stopped when the water came in. The Hamble side won with help of the England cricketer, Stuart Broad. He said it had been "... the most unique game of cricket I have ever been a part of. It’s fantastic to see cricket bringing local communities together to play the sport we all love in such a quirky location.”

Some very bad news for Sir Paddles, with the mix of good news that they've caught it early and it is operable.

    Interesting stuff indeed.

I wasn’t surprised in the slightest to find out he is gay, as others have alluded to he was a very “different” cricketer.

A mate of a mate who played club cricket against him said he once came back from lunch after a typically indifferent spell and literally bowled a pie at him ! Brilliant stuff.

Seems a great bloke and what Larsen said is interesting how he’d be much better looked after if he played today.

Even in under-15s, watching him play was watching a legend being written in real time.

His test figures ended up being quite decent - averaged less than 30, not bad economy rate.

I remember him being pretty damn fast for the time. Just very inconsistent

Just saw that Davis video on FB. Really interesting guy, glad to see more about him.

Main thing I remember about him is him taking that ball to the head like it only a tennis ball.

    Interesting read, interesting character.

Personally find it a bit sad to read at end of article that he is still personally struggling with his sexuality. If that's not too blunt a way of putting it.
