Sweetman has a real air of musical snobbery which fucken irks me. He seems to hate mainstream music whilst singing the praises of crap that no one has even heard of.

I saw RW for free in 2000. The woman I'm seeing went the other night, she said it was an awesome concert but she's from the Hutt so take that information and do with it what you will.

Sweetman is one of those comic book guy type music reviewers [he even looks like comic book guy] that sneer at anything popular , he ranted about Lorde before she was ever popular though which is weird .

The part in bold, I'm picturing crushed velvet,

Naaaa she doesn't resemble Stevie Nicks or Bonnie Tyler.

Fuck you've hit the nail on the head with that description of Sweetman though. He's music version of Rattue although unlike him he occasionally gets a few things right. I agree with his views on Prince for example.

Yes I have. Absolutely outstanding ( Well, apart from the dork from ELO ) Prince sounds like an absolute cock but as an all round musical genius I can think of none better.

Sweetman absolutely loves him which pisses me off cos it's more fitting when he is being cantankerous and whining about stuff.

Harsh on old Jeff there. I don't think even Sweetman could argue that Prince is not a genius, the fact he's a bit off the radar these days probably makes it easier for him though.

He's a perfectly fine pop star, and doesn't pretend to be anything else.

But that's besides the point, that article was embarrassing.

Introduced the wife to Arctic Monkeys - she starts listening to "Arabella" and says "That would be a perfect song for Robbie Williams!" and I raised an eyebrow but said nothing. When the next track started she made the same comment, and I said (through gritted teeth) that sharing a vocal range roughly equivalent to Robbie Williams was probably not uncommon.

I once worked with someone who was such a music snob that he was almost a parody. 'Once a band plays to more than 1,000 people they've sold out and I won't listen to them' type of shit. I haven't seen him in several years, but the need to punch him in the face is the first thing I think of when his name is mentioned. (His music persona summed up his attitude to life)

Music is fun and to be enjoyed, not ponced over like a modern art critic. I'm ambivalent about Robbie Williams, but he's bought more joy to people than every fat fuck music reviewer on the planet combined ever will.
