That's why it would be amusing to see them cut off moments before the money shot.
That's mean. They have sucked for years. And taken an awful kicking from their press.
Their press are parasites and their fans are drunken thugs.
Absolutely no sympathy here.
English fans are softies compared to the "Ultras" end of Russian fans, or Croatia or Serbia for that matter. They still kill people.
We just don't hear about them, but they are the old style hooliganism that England has largely had policed out. (The English police have banned a couple of guys for singing racist songs after the match in a pub. There'd barely be a Balkan football fan left if they started doing that!)
And if you think the English press are savage, I assume you don't follow other countries.
The outpouring of bile when Italy failed to qualify was apparently quite something. I don't imagine any of the Argentine or Spanish players will go near a newspaper for a while either.
The faults you find with English football are pretty much international. We just hear about them because they are English speaking.
Yep, this notion that the English press are unique in their savaging of the national team is complete crap. It's probably worse in Southern Europe and South America. Shit even in passive little Norway after Tore Andre Flo missed a sitter they had massive front page headline with pictures stating "This is a ball, this is a goal, you can figure the rest out yourself."
As a sporting group I really struggle to feel sympathy for them on the whole though. After the WC is over the vast majority go back to their clubs and 'earn' their ridiculous salaries all while falling over pretending to be hurt.
Yep, remember seeing a picture of that Arjen Robben looking all depressed after missing a vital penalty. He was sitting at some after match function with his model wife. I think driving home to his mansion in his Lamborghini and then mounting his splendid wife on a bed stuffed with Euro bills probably helped take the edge off his depression.
Well it's not all good for all of them.
Beckham has to fuck a bag of bones with no facial expressions after all.

Nooooo - I have Brazil in the sweepstake! I was watching the end of the game on Skygo at work with the sound down. Any idea why the Danish defender wasn't red carded when he gave away the penalty a few minutes from the end? Tackle from behind when the striker is about to roll the ball into an empty net is surely a red card unless something has changed in interpretations recently.
Despite having no attachment to either team other than Carlsberg, I supported Croatia in the shootout because of that incident.
CAn't blame the Dane though, he did the right thing.

What a dull 1st half, what a fantastic 2nd half!
Both goalkeepers made crucial saves in the dying minutes to keep their teams alive but in the end Japan paid for their desire to push players forward in search of the winning goal. I do feel desperately sorry for them to exit like that.
This Belgian team has more resolve and steel than previous iterations as in the past they would have collapsed after being 2-0 behind.
Brazil-Belgium, can't wait. In fact both QFs on that side of the draw would be worthy SFs.
