Blues 2019

@taniwharugby He was in the NZ Schools squad, but not yet in a Mitre 10 squad, isn't he?
-
@kiwimurph Beat me to it. :smiling_face_with_open_mouth:
-
@stargazer from what I gather he is still at school
-
@taniwharugby Ah, so if he's not too old, he may have another year in NZ Schools as well!
-
-
@kiwimurph Blues also had him in the U20s side in the matches earlier this year. First time they've ever picked a current schoolboy in the U20s team.
-
Experienced Super Rugby player and coach, Daniel Halangahu will follow his North Harbour coach Tom Coventry to join the Blues for the next two years.
Halangahu will complete his third year as an assistant coach with North Harbour before joining the Blues as the specialist Skills and Lead Backs Coach.

What's MacDonald's role then, attack coach? Or perhaps the real head coach?

Yeah I think MacDonald was called attack coach at that press conference. So something like this?
Umaga - defence
Coventry - fowards
MacDonald - attack
Halangahu - backs
Afeaki - scrumWhat's interesting is that Coventry has all his NH assistants joining him. That puts him in a powerful position when Umaga finally
gets sackedopts for an exciting new challenge in world series rugby -
@duluth UMaga will probably take over from Redman!
-
@taniwharugby it would be the perfect time for him to join Mitchell and Jones wouldn't it?
As a slight aside, I just realised "Mitchell & Jones" sounds like a great 80's comedy duo.

Looking like a great 2019 comedy duo too.

"which caused a nation of Englishmen to sigh "alas Mitchell & Jones""
-
@mariner4life Eddie and John visit NZ could be a kids programme.
-
After the first round Fukofuka and Tumua Manu look like good options for the 2019 squad. Ruru does not. Would like to see more of Jono Kitto.
Thought Sione Mafileo had a good game.
-
Reminder that Umaga gave Matt Johnson a contract ahead of Matt Vaega.
-
Hanks,how is he surviving ..?
-
@duluth alistair Rodgers is defence coach
-
@steven-harris good photos....

He was. He's not next season.
None of Dave Ellis, Steve Jackson or Alistair Rogers re-applied for their jobs.
-
Harbour's Hapakuki Moala-Liava'a could be worth a look for backup 8 and 6. He's certainly got the size. Was in NZ U20, turns 22 in November.
-
Fotu Lokotui looks like a good player from Counties who could be a great backup 7
-
Also, would definitly try to sign at least one of the Faingaanuku brothers
-
Players like, Murphy Taramai, Gerard Cowley-Tuioti, Alex Hodgman, Dalton Papali'i, Orbyn Leger and Tumua Manu are lowkey players with a huge amount of potential, just need to continue developoing them
-
@canes Agree on all those except the first. Taramai is just too small at Super Rugby level. He falls off tackles constantly, and can't out pressure on at the ruck. Handy NPC player though.
Scrafton's recovery from injury will be a key. Would be great to see Goodhue's form demand selection.
-
@tim I think Goodhue was just starting to look really comfortable at Super level when he took his head knock.
Expecting a big M10 Cup from him, Tom Robinson is another to keep an eye on too, although needs a farking haircut!

Trying to get noticed perhaps? People always remember a hair do like that....
-
@taniwharugby Yeah, I was gutted when he went off during that game against the Jaguares, as he was having a blinder, especially on defence.
-
@gunner he's a red head, he doesn't need much help there!
-
So there's one certainty in the midfield next year - SBW will start at 12 when fit. Who will partner him at 13, and who will be the combination when he's unavailable?
Probably want someone with distribution skills, and pace to take the outside break, when he's playing. Whereas when he's out you'll want the best combination of a power player and a distributor, whatever position they are in.
-
@kiwimurph He looks quality.
-
@kiwimurph So, SBW/Manu and Leger/Manu?
Still very annoyed that Little and Vaega were let go.
-
Perfect player would be Vince Aso...
