Good to see the Demons get through last night, hope they make the final Saturday now and are a chance to beat what looks like a tiring eagles team next weekend, having done it a few weeks ago at the same venue (although not with the intensity and atmosphere of what is finals footy). Thought the dees were going to lose it after a couple of soft frees awarded against them late in the game but they held their composure and kicked a few late goals.

Alot of people are looking at that game as a guide , something that is getting overlooked a little ,
West Coast had no Kennedy, and Darling was knocked out in the first ten minutes , like any side that loses its two main targets up forward , becomes significantly weaker ,they have kicked about 80 goals between them this year.

Welcome aboard.
I think the Eagles will get a couple of players back, but momentum is a strange thing when it comes to finals.
Walking around Melbs this afternoon, rubbish weather, but plenty of black n white around (not AB jerseys).
Would looooooove the Giants to knock off the Pies.

I'm in a bar in Hua Hin, eye movement range of ago and wallabies, my team's are both holding slender leads, 3 mins to go each and a week to think about the ALL Blacks,
And I think,
FUCK SPORT IS GREAT EH !!!!
yes, I'm blind
firstly, post of the year
How big is Friday night going to be in Melbourne?! Ticketek is crashing today for sure!! you could sell them MCG out twice for this i reckon.
Fuck a Dees v Pies GF would make me laugh, but hard to see it not being the top 2 seeds.

Pretty much no public sale for Friday's game, the members snapped them all up. AFL crowds really are amazing

I read an extra 300,000 in attendance this season.
Extra.

@antipodean understandable with 4 big Melbourne teams all being good, and a new big stadium in the West.
-
big news doing the rounds in melbourne , Dusty has not trained since the Hawks game ,
if he doesnt play , that would be an enormous boost for Collingwood .

I hate Dusty.
But I hate Collingwood more.

looks like Darling and Kennedy are fully fit so going to be a hard job for the Dees to contain those two and be wary of all the other small forwards roaming around, head says the Eagles, Heart says the Dees, should be a cracker

I love AFL fans, they are so engaged with their teams. There is no apathy like the rugby codes. They get 90k to certain home and away games, let alone the massive crowd for tomorrow's finals.
I've just had a squiz at the Big Footy forum, and the game thread for Richmond v Collingwood is already 52 pages, and 90% of that is just them calling each other flogs, and outlining why their team is shit. Passionate.
Even the West Coast v Melbourne thread is over 30 pages. Most of it Eagles fans whinging about not getting love from the AFL media.
They back their clubs to the hilt, very little in the way of reasoned analysis, or balance. It's fucking great

@mariner4life not sure now but they used to 10-30k fans turning up for training before th gf!

Footy Finals 2.
Richmond v Collingwood. The two biggest clubs in Melbourne (Australia really). Hordes of deadshits will descend on the MCG to yell and boo at the ref, and hurl abuse at the guys wearing different coloured scarves. There will be a fight in the stands at some point, of that there is no doubt. The streets of Melbourne will not be safe for anyone. Every tackle will be to the sound of 50,000 people yelling "BAAAALLLLL" followed by "BOOOOOOO". Cut to a close up of some nuffie in a spittle-flecked tirade at the nearest ref. It'll be great viewing. The game could be good as well. Collingwood have over-achieved this year, and are in a prelim despite still not being at full strength. They even play half decent footy. But they are playing Richmond, who don't lose at home these days, and play 2018 footy better then everyone else. Expect the game to be close until the 3rd quarter, when Richmond's pressure finally runs Collingwood ragged, and the score blows out to a 5-goal win. The only mitigating factor is, for the first time in 2 years, one of Richmond's big 4 is not fully fit. Won't be enough, and a needled up Dusty will kick 3 in the forward line.
Saturday we are off to Perth, where the apparently ignored Eagles host the 2018 fairytale side in melbourne. The crowd will be smaller, but they will mainly be Eagles fans (because Qantas have been getting paid this week after mysteriously jacking their prices about 10.30 Friday night. Seriously, i heard a rumour it was cheaper to fly Melbourne-Bali-Perth, than Melbourne-Perth direct. Like any Demon fan would be seen dead in Bali). If you thought the booing was bad on Friday, wait for this. BOOOOO!!!!!! Free kick Eagles. Like fucking clockwork. Apparently... The Eagles are actually really good, and have their forwards back, so should be too good for Melbourne, who are honestly just happy to have won a couple of finals for the first time in 80 years. They will then get hammered in Melbourne next week. But i am firmly on the Dees bandwagon, and will cheer them on (or boo the other way, to stay in the spirit of the weekend).
