*JJ Taulagi made a couple of nice runs from fullback but received a yellow card in the first half, which someone said was his 4th of the season. Havelock took a quick tap in the Clive 22 and Taulagi did not retire 10 metres when he tackled the halfback who had made the quick tap. Both teams received two yellow cards and the Havelock scrum was awful in the second half.*
Interesting that Taulagi does not appear to have received any sanction for the HBRFU Judicial Sub-committee after receiving three yellow cards. Maybe they work under different yellow card awardings to most of the remainder of the country where the mandatory penalty is a minimum 1 week suspension after collecting three in a season.
I did hear some interesting comments re the Taulagi situation which are interesting to say the least. Not my place to comment on them given that I did not get the chance to confirm whether said comments were 100% true or not, particularly a disturbing one which occurred on the day of the match against Havelock North.
Damn disappointing that Colenso Pirates ran in two tries very late in the piece to scrape home by seven in a game that ebbed and flowed throughout. Pirates did have a couple of interesting players but fairly much relied on a couple who played very well to get them home. Their No 7 was very impressive, dominating their lineout winning about 90% of their total throws whilst Pouri Rakete-Stones (spelling? the under 20s prop anyway) made some powerful bursts when in possession, showing good leg drive. He looked to play a crucial part in two late scrums that won them the ball from Tech put ins. Their halfback (looked Japanese) also went well with some fast passes to his large 1st five.
Tech looked the goods for most of the second half bar the last five minutes when it all came unstuck. They told me TBW was playing and by a process of elimination decided that he must have been the guy in the No 7 jersey. If it was then he still has a bit of work to get back to the size I can remember him being in his all too sporadic appearances under the previous HB Magpies Coach. -
I've seen Taulagi get two yellow cards this season - for Tech v Havelock, and today for Clive v Havelock. He also got one in the Nash Cup final for Tech v NOB Marist. So, that's definitely three. I dont know where the 4th one happened, if it did happen.
2018 HBRU handbook:
Rule 20 Judicial Procedures
(f) A player sin-binned on two occasions in a season shall be cautioned and warned that a further sin-binning will result in additional penalty. A player sin-binned on three or more occasions in a season will incur the mandatory stand down of one playing day. No hearing will be held. -
The Tech "TMO" squad I enjoyed a Heineken with were adament that he has had three previously this season prior to today and they never miss a game. Appears the only possible saviour might have been the paperwork for one of them not being completed and lodged in time?????

28-3.Next week's final:
NOBM v Clive -
Next week's final is a repeat of last year's.
I didn't see either game, but both could be termed upsets.
Clive came from behind to win over top qualifiers Hastings RS and Napier OB Marist won by an astonishing margin despite, apparently, having seven front line players out injured.

@footy01 I misread it as well the first time I saw that post, but then I noticed it was written as a question. Maybe it's possible, because they've both played games before the finals? Anyway, I seriously doubt the Canes will release Jonah. Maybe Tiaan.
-
Yes indeed, 37-7 to Clive, six tries to one. As decisive as the scoreline suggests. Only poor goalkicking prevented Clive from going past 40. They even missed a penalty from inside the NOBM 22 before any scoring occurred.
Clive led just 8-7 until a try a minute before halftime to lead 13-7. Second half was one-way traffic, keeping NOBM scoreless.
Jonah Lowe scored two tries on the right wing for Clive and Tiaan Falcon played the whole second 40, kicking one conversion.
JJ Taulagi picked up his fifth yellow card of the season - pushing/shoving after a tackle - and went off injured a minute before fulltime. Has the ability to beat a man but his temperament is a liability.
To underline NOBM's day they didn't score any points with Taulagi's yellow card and the one man advantage.
