I attended the game at Whitmore Park and it was all one way traffic. Tech were simply too skilled, fast and fit for Central Hawkes Bay. In fact the score should really have been three figures but for a number of times Tech players passed the ball to other players, and the play somehow broke down, when they would have scored themselves had they kept going. That would have posed a problem for the scoreboard attendant as there were only two 0s available amongst the list of numbers available to him and the score was to become exactly 100 nil!
CHB kept going to the end even though they were slaughtered so you have to give them credit for that, the same could not be said about some of their tackling or their defensive structures and patterns. But you are right Stargazer in that the massive margins in a lot of games cannot be good for rugby in the Bay, unless of course it is just NTOB recording them, or anyone dealing to NOB
MThe new signing for the Magpies looked good at fullback showing a good turn of speed and some lovely steps of both feet completely bamboozling the defenders. He also timed his pass nicely when required but had he been greedy he could have had about five or six tries in all honesty. He also kicked a number of excellent conversions from out wide across the wind that was coming in at more than a gentle breeze velocity from the Bowling Club end of the ground (assuming the club is still there?). Not the biggest of players but the raw material is there to work with come Mitre10 Cup time. How he goes against top notch players remains to be seen. Cannot comment on his defence as when you win by 90 you don't have to do much.
There was also a big type winger on the right wing that also showed nimble footwork a number of occasions that made me sit up take note. Whether he is in the Magpies set up I was not sure but he did look good. TBW is back in town but did not play. I did not spot him but understand he has a bit of conditioning to get to his optimum playing weight, my sources indicated he would have no problem in making the Under 85s if they ran that grade in the Bay. Also caught a glimpse of Tim Farrell in his civies, looks like he might be gone for the entire season.
The welcome home to the 2018 NZ Cricket Club Champions, Napier Tech Old Boys, was acclaimed by a thunderous and spine chilling haka from the rugby division of the club was the highlight of the aftermatch function for me.

The right winger was. apparently, Sebastian Visinia who played for Auckland Under 19 last year. He is a big boy, when I saw him against Napier OB Marist he was midfield.
Are you sure Trent Boswell-Wakefield did not come on for the last 20 minutes? On Friday the Tech captain told me he would.

Good to see you back for a game Higgins. I'm looking forward to hopefully catching some more club rugby this season. Have made the decision to sell up in Auckland and move back home. Currently prepping house for sale up here, before I start looking in Napier - probably looking at being in HB within 2 months, so should be there for the pointy end of the Madison Trophy hopefully.

He might have done as there was a tallish "skinny" looking guy that came on with about 15 minutes left. As I said the TMO panel I was watching the game with told me has arrived back home minus a fair bit of weight. My concentration by that time had waivered a bit and we were became deeply involved in discussing that famous try yours truly scored against the Dannevirke Derelects way back in 1987 and why I did not bring it round behind the goalposts.
There was even a good old fashioned one on one stouch shortly before halftime that saw some decent aggressive punches thrown (almost all of which missed). The TMO panel disagreed with the Referee's decision to wave just the one yellow card! Oh and the players (and at least one supporter) aftermatch feed was up to proper non main centre provincial standards, not a spoonful of pasta, mince or curried sausage to be seen. Ahhhhh, the pleasures of one of my all too infrequent visits home these days, supplemented by the happy hour that kicked in at 6.00pm.

Two defaults marred today's round in Hawke's Bay's Tui Nash Cup premier club rugby competition. Yesterday Central defaulted their playoff for ninth place against Clive at Farndon Park. Central officials told Hawke's Bay Rugby Football Union's club development officer Gary Macdonald a high injury count contributed to the default. At 10am today Tamatea defaulted their quarterfinal against defending champions Napier Old Boys Marist at Park Island. Eleven of our regular 22 players are on our injured list. Among those are four of our six adequately trained frontrowers and we don't have a seconds team which we can pick from," Tamatea head coach Matt Marsh explained. "It's the first time we've defaulted and it wasn't an easy decision. We put an SOS out and got no reply. We're not blessed with 10 frontrowers like our neighbours across the road," Marsh said referring to Hastings Rugby and Sports who have regularly played one of their props at No 8 this season.Results and scorers:

@stargazer Napier Old Boys Marist have been dominated at set piece scrum time by a couple of other teams,but they counter that by playing the game at pace and moving bigger sides around..

@steven-harris Yes, when I watched the Tech OB v NOB Marist match, second round, the Tech scrum certainly was the superior one.

HT: 26-16Didn't notice that until I saw this instagram post from Jonah. Glad he has recovered from his injury and that the Canes actually let him play club rugby. Not holding my breadth that he will get capped this SR season. Hopefully, he'll get a contract at another franchise - without or with a shorter queue of midfielders/wingers - next year.
Finally got to lace up the boots again after two long months on the sideline 🤕 #gettingold -
I'm sure @Higgins as an Axeman (as well as a Texan) will approve of this
