Ish batted for 3 hours and 10 mins. Monster effort.

After copping a bone breaking hit on the lower arm no less

Sodhi thinks he may have a broken arm and/or finger. So, if true, he really has taken one (or two) for the team.

I'm not surprised. The ball didn't glance off the arm it bounced back onto the pitch. That is super tough

What a great series to end the Summer with. Hard fought, intense and tense at times. But played in a great spirit, an excellent spectacle for test cricket fans

Now it's over I can say the English spinner was not great. Where were Moeen and the other joker from the ODI series?

    Moeen is hopeless.

@mimic have been really impressed with CDG. They clearly rate him as a bowler, and he picked up some decent movement and generally bowled well as a 3/4 seamer. Batted very well too. Pity he's 31, but probably doesn't have too many miles in the legs, so could play for another few years.

Batting average of 38, bowling average of 29. That's a decent career already.

Should bat at number six in the ODI team come the CWC, he's definitely not just a pinch hitter.

Listened to the game on Radio Sport while stuck in fun Auckland traffic. Really enjoy Jeremy Coney and Bryan Waddle doing the cricket commentary (or I just enjoy it more than being stuck in traffic). Great effort by Ish considering he wasn't picked for the first test due to him not being a batsman (Todd Astle will be waiting another several years).

It’s par for course that a lower order black cap wins/saves a test with the bat rather than the ball..

Jerry and Chats would be proud

    And ...

    Astle and Morrison
    Astle and Allott
    Greatbtach and Cairns/Sneds
    Coney, Crowe and Cairns

Really enjoyed the Radio Sport commentary. Graham Swann popped in several times. Said some random shit, but quite amusing. Peter Fulton wasn't bad either.

@mokey Heard Jonathan Agnew on there the other day. Guessing he jumped across from the Sky commentary box to do a couple of overs.

But the best was Coney - especially during the two rained out days at Eden Park. To kill time Waddle asked what his favourite cricket ground was and Coney then gave a riveting 30 minute story about a game he played in Pakistan. Then said the Basin was his favourite ground. Classic.

Amazing escape there. Despite the promise of an early finish due to bad light, England bowled the full allocation. Which meant they bowled another 50 overs after Latham's dismissal - and took a new ball. Just 4 wickets to take, the top 6 all gone and NZ with a long tail.

I like how Sodhi and Wagner were really focused on the draw - showing once again how hard it is to dismiss a batsman if they don't play shots - a lesson that wasn't learnt by 6 of the top 7.

It wasn't learnt by the English bowlers either - so much short stuff. As Swann pointed out on commentary the de Grandhomme wicket almost helped NZ because it gave England hope that a barrage of short stuff would eventually net a wicket - but instead it just meant Sodhi and Wagner very few balls to defend.

The contrast in captaincy and planning between Williamson in the last test and Root here was clear for all to see. The English bowlers and Root got a bit distracted and lacked a plan once they hit the tail - which does happen very often in these pressure 4th innings with the ball.

I see what you did there.

As the test rankings only started in 2003 I would say yes.
