@bones my guess is the headline writer and the article writer are different people, with the headline person not paying alot of attention to the article...I mean the first line would make you think the writer wanted the headline to be something more like:

"Personally, I think he's the best centre in New Zealand"

I'd more go with what he actually said. 🙂

@tim kinda expecting to not see anymore of Coles, and while Read is a big part of the ABs, this will be a great opportunity for us to see someone else there.

    @hooroo

Hooker Dane Coles is also yet to make a return in 2018 due to an operation following a ruptured ACL (knee) ligament.
"Dane is having a few problems with his knee too - he can't seem to straighten it," Hansen said. "He's gone back to the surgeon and the surgeon has put him back in a brace at night to try to help him get full extension.
"Once that happens he'll make progress pretty quickly. He is unlikely to be available for June."

@hooroo nah ACL, but he seemed well off the pace last year.

While I expect they will give him another shot once fit, think he is on the downward part of his career (I hope I'm wrong)

Hell yeah. Scored some insane tries with his pace from hooker. A great example (like BBBR) of someone who does their core job, and then just brings another level of insane talent.

Who's going to be the captain for the series? Cane or Whitelock?

Hopefully Whitelock. Personally, I think he should be captain, ahead of Read.

Nah it'll be Whitelock for straight swap and captain, Luke has captained the ABs before! 😉

In all seriousness I'd say Whitelock would probably be the favourite to be starting 8 for the first French test, especially with the limited buildup. I can't see them throwing in an Akira or Evans for a test debut start - a spot on the pine is more likely.

I fucking hope not. It's not that he's rubbish, it's just that he's a bit, well, ordinary. Why put in a "safe pair of hands" who isn't going to have a long test career? He's a 27 year old with precisely two test caps (and a mid-weeker). It just screams of stop-gap.

You may be right, as i don't know the selectors thoughts (and they are pretty conservative) but i can't see how Whitelock's "experience" is enough to override the higher talent and output of another player.

The AB's are always utter crap in that first match, well last few years anyway. Even more with NZ deciding to start SR a week later, miss out on a week prep, and have these ridiculous camps. So maybe a safe pair of hands is what they're after for then? Who knows, they're wiser than me!

Liam Squire is another player who can play Nr.8 too. The selectors could be tempted to field a Fifita - Cane - Squire combo with Akira on the bench. But this leaves no injury cover for Cane.

It's interesting that everyone is saying that the captain will either be Cane or Whitelock. The current VC is not a bad player and should make the starting XV. 😉

If BFA is the captain then one of the two forwards mentioned above will be the VC.
