Shoud have given himself and Munro at least an over each.
Munro. Forgot about Mr Tricky! Kane totally out thought
That presumes that he was even thinking tonight.
That went from a dream game to a complete pile of shit

Is that the biggest choke in 20/20 history?
Firstly they should have made 250 from where they were after 15 overs but then to serve up that shit in the field. Bowling wides and full toss no balls has nothing to do with good batting, it's just shit execution. Why the fuck Wheeler was brought back on after getting carted in his first 3 overs i will never know. Shit captaincy. -
Mitch Santner is a smart cricketer!
We made a couple of questionable calls with the batting line-up. I understood the logic of sending out Seifert to replace Munro - but, when he went out, I thought we should have sent out de Grandhomme and followed him with Taylor.
Bowling - none of our guys were particularly good, but those two bouncers by Boult and Wheeler that went for five wides apiece during the power play really helped to give Oz impetus and get them ahead of the run rate. Aside from that - there were some streaky shots that went for boundaries when we needed them to take wickets.
Rather than shrugging shoulders and remembering that it is a day when bowlers are going to get pounded our guys looked a bit panicked, bowled some rubbish and got hit harder.
I guess Kane looked at the treatment that Short got as the sixth bowler and thought it was a night to stick with his specialists - but, really, it was worth a try to bowl an over of dobblies from Munro, when his specialists were being spanked anyway.
Pretty grim night for Wheeler - on the plus side he went for the same number of runs as Tye - and he's got a million dollar IPL contract!
-
During one of the latter overs, Boult bowls two yorkers in a row which goes for a run each ball and then decides to bowl length balls for the rest of the over and gets spanked. That's just plain stupid and something you shouldn't expect from an experienced guy like Boult.
I also don't get the rationale behind keeping DeGrandhome for the last few overs only. When you find yourself at 130 odd with eight overs to go and only one down, you bring him in you silly muppets. Whether he kills it with the bat from overs 13-15 (and gets out) or overs 18-20 makes absolutely no difference to the scoreboard, but if he has one of those days and stays in till the 20th, then imagine what sort of a score you end up with by bringing him in early. But nah, let's just give him a couple of overs at the end (if he even gets a chance to bat) and compromise our hitting power.
This is one hell of a stupid team.

I've been a big Hesson fan up until this summer. Has he jumped the shark?
Obviously last night was a really disappointing performance but that's not what's making me question him. The thing I liked about Hesson is he seemed to be settling NZ selection policies. We moved away from domestic flavour of the month selections and the inevitable revolving door as guys struggled to step up, or were found out because they didn't have the tools to succeed at an international level.
Instead (up until the start of this home summer) we've looked deeper at guys, bringing though players who have the technique and intangibles to succeed international level and then (most importantly in my view) given them time to adjust to significant step up from NZ domestic to international.
But this season that seems to be changing - our selections seem much more random, the rotation seems to be taking the piss (rotation against the second best time in the world? I kind of understood resting guys against a poor West Indies team, but then it's weird to rest guys at the start of the summer, and then this tri-series has been so ridiculously spread out that guys are hardly being stressed in what would traditionally be the height of summer, and resting batsmen seems even weirder again).
What are other people's view? It's not that long ago that we won 13 games in a row and this was looking like the most successful summer in a long time (and who knows, we could yet win this tri-series and then do well against England), but my concern is that if the structural elements of Hesson's leadership are starting to deteriorate then the black caps performance on the field will go the same way.

You're just overanalyzing the inevitable ebbs and flows of sport particularly the shits and giggle nature of T20. It took a special performance by Oz to get those runs but they up and did it. Fair play.

That was a really, really special innings from Guppy. He and Munro had the Aussies seriously rattled for most of that innings with largely good cricket shots. Really stoked I saw that live.
I think bringing out Seifert and Chapman after Munro got out was a poor decision, that was the perfect time to bring out CDG and give him a couple of overs to get set. Despite Roscos 6s it was a limp finish to the innings overall, but still 243 should have been more than enough...
...and then the fielding effort. Sheesh. In some defense of our bowlers, bloody Short basically edged his way to his first 30-40 runs getting them ahead of the run rate. Was frustrating as hell, and then Warner got going and they got their tails up.
I agree with @Siam's post earlier in the thread though, I think Kane's captaincy has a long way to go, and there were a number of more than questionable decisions throughout. Wheeler got tonked but it was Kane that kept bowling him despite having viable options to take the pace off the ball. Also, watching Short edge everything I missed McCullum's attacking mindset and fields - early wickets and it's game over but we didn't capitalise.
But overall you do have to give credit where it's due, that was some chase by the Aussies. It appears at this point that they have a great test and T20 team, but shit ODI team. Probably need a couple of their T20 players in their ODI side (Maxwell, Short).
/rant: why the fuck do they play music after EVERY single ball?? I was going to say the atmosphere was awesome, especially when Guppy and Munro were going, but it wasn't because of the bloody music killing it after every shot. Also meant you couldn't have a proper conversation with the bloke next to you. Am I just getting old? Do people really want constant music blurting out at a sporting event? For me it kills the atmosphere dead, which is a shame as it was an awesome crowd last night.

Depends what the music is. If it's the exponents or the God awful 'Hey Baby ( oooo ha ) I wanna knoooooooow, will you be my girl' then I'm with ya 100%.

@no-quarter Since the beginning of time Eden Park has favoured the slower bowlers. It was a mystifying decision not to bowl Munro or even have an over for the captain himself. Why not a slip or two when Short was getting all those jammy runs? At least he would have thought about the risk of getting out and it might have affected his play. Kane just couldn't react to stop the bleeding
