    Good win.

Positives: Kane back in form, promising cameos from Chapman and Seifert. Good death bowling.
Negative: Some rubbish fielding at times. Bit of catching practice needed.

Has anyone seen Kieran Reid and Jos Buttler in the same room doing a post match interview ... ?

Pretty crucial win, with Oz already qualified for the finals. We also gained a bit of breathing space on England in terms of net run rate. At worst we'll finish level with England, so right now we've almost got three bites at the cherry as well as insurance against rain.

Really the batting that won that game - we got an above par score and then really needed all of those runs. For a long time England were looking likely.

A few cracks opened up under pressure - especially the fielding for a couple of overs, but also as Gunner pointed out - early on we were getting ahead of the count in most overs and then the English would hit a couple of late boundaries to peg things back.

Boult getting smacked for 20 off his 2nd over wasn't great viewing. Nor were those two dropped catches - but, the closing was very proficient once we got Malan.

That was a fun watch, more entertaining as a contest than most 20Twenties, almost beginning to see the appeal of the format. Nice to see those squinty little new guys doing well too. Colin'd better do something against Australia.

We won ... yay ... we should have won rather more easily than we did but for a coupla things:

    • we tried to get funky with our batting with the stepping thjs way and that with the silly little flick things. Reckon we wasted 10-12 deliveries in the last 5 overs doing that. Should gave got 210 plus.

    • coupla dropped catches could / should have cost us. (Mrs boo queries, quite seriously, Santna Claws's need for glasses: he dumpstoo many. And that one tonight could have been crucial.)

    • Mrs boo also laughed at @Sneakdefreak's gif

I assume Santner uses contact lenses while playing because he wears glasses off the field. He should go full Vettori.

I wear contacts and find them easier than glasses. Remember Southee shelled one too and his one was easier

    @canefan

Mitch clearly needs a better set!

I'm sure there are a lot of sportspeople who wear contacts and we'd never know. It's only in sports like rugby where players (e.g. BBBR) are always refitting them that we are aware of it.

As for Tim, he never got close to catching that but maybe the wind was worse than we think. Boult misjudged his catch too.

@bovidae they showed the sky when it was still light and the wind was up. It always swirls around in the tin when it's windy

It's more the number of catches that Mitch has spilled. A few too many for my liking.

There was a text to Radio Sport this morning (may have been Devlin?) claiming someone hurled a bottle as he was lining up the catch.

Not sure how true that is.

Doesn't excuse the rest of his dropsies.

Can't say i was impressed with Kanes field management. Too many meetings, confusion and far too much input from the senior bowlers.

Time to be his own captain and sure get some input from Southee but a bowler should mot be moving the field as much. At one stage a point sweeper ran across to on and back to point without a ball being bowled. And the delays would have cost him a fortune in a decently run comp.

Contrast that McCullum, Finch or Head and it looked very unstructured at the caketin.

Like Steve Smith, fantastic batsman but captaincy very much a work in progress

28,000 tickets already sold for tonight's game at Eden Park.

Hopefully it gets rowdy. Black Caps are going to need all the help they can get.

I'm starting work at 2am tomorrow, so giving tonight's game a miss.

I have a corporate general ticket for the final though - won't enjoy particularly watching England v Australia, so hope the Black Caps pull tonight's win off

We've won the toss and chosen to bat.

Everything else being equal (and Warner said he would have bowled) I would have asked Australia to set the target.

Maybe Kane thinks this is a safer way to protect our run rate advantage?
