The Ashes

Missing Starc's left-arm option and while the ball was starting to shape a bit later on, Lehmann will be hoping Cummins has a dozen Hydralites and a good sleep to get back to his best.
Missing Starc full stop, I think. Even if he hasn't been completely on song this series, he's still probably the best fast bowler in the world. Compounded by Cummins being sick - but, for about the first time the English haven't looked like getting out at any moment.
What I'm inclined to think, as well, is that Starc is generally too good for tail-enders to play, so maybe the England tail might not get dynamited this time.
Hope not - would be nice to see this test competitive.

@chris-b Brett Geeves sort of had it right this morning. No Starc, a sick Cummins, and a slow wicket, and suddenly the Poms don't feel they are just trying to survive, and lo Cook's feet come back. Everything sort of played in to England's hands.

@mariner4life said in The Ashes:
even Steve Smith was bored, so he got himself out. Worst series i can remember. Shit, benign pitches offering nothing to the bowlers, or the batsmen really, and one team completely out-classed.
terrible summer so far
okay, so this series is neck and neck compared to what happened between South Africa and Zimbabwe.

That was nothing but an absolute arse raping.

@mariner4life hindsight. What did he say before the day?
Geeves is good though -
I'm happy with the decision for Broad - it looked like a catch and on replay you can't see it touch the ground. Still a very valuable contribution to England. Imagine what they could have got if Cook was better at judging whether his batting partner should use a referral!

Actually I defer to Bill Lawry. I think he used the grass to aid his grip ( not intentionally)
I can understand how present procedures arrive at the decision though, and that's how it is.
Cook's straight bat shots were a feature today.
Amazing how the lack of pressure for this match has affected each team's performance.

Staying in Taupo with the mrs and her family. Needless to say we fucked off to the pub at the earliest opportunity. I watched a cool doco on mute. Great seeing Ian Chappelle, Doug Walters, Jeff Thomson, Bob Willis, Graham Gooch, Alan Border and various others being interviewed.
It woulda been even better if I could hear them.
