The Ashes

woo hoo - Go umm
errr
Pomstralia
eeeh
Ockgolia
Much as I love an Ashes series I find it hard to support a team from the outset untiol I decide who the bigger fluffybunnies are.
Generally its Oz but Poms have certainly had their moments

COOKED

Cook gorn to Starc
-
I struggle to support either side but just love the series. Often very high quality cricket and plenty of heat out there
-
Mark Nicholas is still a knob
'That's out I think'
Replay shows ball is nowhere near the bat.

ooooh yesssssss
No Mark.
-
Fuckwit.
A mate of mine is listening to Triple M radio who have the comm rights this time - Brayshaw, Mark Waugh, Phil Tufnell, Mick Molloy.
-
Fucking Warne: 'he might bowl full, he might bowl short, maybe a yorker, perhaps over the wicket, or maybe around...'
Thanks for that incessant insight Shane, Starc might indeed bowl a cricket ball in one of the many ways possible...
-
@donsteppa and he'll use that familiar left foot/right foot combination.
The Ch9 commentary team are the absolute pits.
-
Slow session for scoring. Poms digging in for some flat deck action after lunch
-
154 first class matches with an average in the mid 30s is enough to get you a game for England these days apparently.
-
Fucking Brisbane. Shit hole.
-
-
@virgil hey that's @mariner4life 's home state you're talking about there!

Should members of the most conservative state (42% no) in Australia really be making fun of other states?

Good innings, but that was a terrible run from Vince.
-
@mn5 for three of their top order! jesus.

Ridiculous. They shouldn't be any more than honest county battlers. Is English cricket really that weak?

ROOTED

Good day for Australia really. Bowling first on a slow road, they restrict the scoring to a 1986-esque 196, and take 4 wickets, including England's best player for not very much.
-
I'm sure if you have a dog in this fight, you're enthralled by this gritty test cricket, where every run and wicket has to be earned.
But as a neutral who just wants to be entertained, fucking get on with it!!

Bring back Trevor Franklin.

Missed about 12 overs due to rain and shitty Queensland in general tho. Poms probably could have reached 230-250.
-
@nta given the run rate for the rest of the innings, that seems unlikely.
-
@mariner4life which is a good point - even Ali, who is a tonker, has slowed himself down.
Not enough short balls from what I saw.
-
double breakthrough of both set batsmen, and England's go-slow approach now looking shakey at 249/6
-
So last 5 wickets go for 48 while I am in a meeting Poms all out 302 and that's lunch
-
all out 302.
Positives: they didn't get rolled, the made the aussie bowlers get through 116 overs
But 300 is sub-par batting first at the 'gabba
-
The go-slow approach is pretty dangerous in today's game. Given the rate the Aussies score at, trying to bat time is a pretty sure-fire way to put yourself behind the 8-ball and lose the test. Even after a long period of defiance, a few quick wickets and you're right on the backfoot as is what happened.
They just scrapped over 300, so psychologically there's that at least, but shit they're going to need some early wickets or they'll really be battling.
-
It's a four day test at the Gabba anyway. So if Australia go after the bowling to force a result within the sessions that don't get rained out, that will provide opportunities for the English bowlers who have shown a bit of form on their warm-up matches.
-
Average first innings score at Gabba this century is 408
4th lowest first innings total in 17 tests
-
I'm not sure this is a typical Gabba track though. Seems a bit slow, with some variable bounce and a lot of turn.
I think 302 is still 30-50 runs light, but I will withhold judgement until we bat. It wouldn't surprise me if we struggle a bit as well.
Ultimately England will be ruing their poor shots. At 4/250 they had the game in their hands, and maybe the series as well...

That's why the Ashes is so great. Even the most sensible people start losing their shit and making dramatic statements like this...
-
35/2 or is that 2/35..
-
So reasonably important partnership right now...
-
Shit shot, Warner gone, advantage England in this test, and maybe even the series...
