Thanks to a post on Wairarapa-Bush's socials, we also know there's a Central Region's tournament, this weekend, in Palmerston North. Complete silence from all other provinces. It wouldn't surprise me if there's also a Southern Region tournament somewhere.

I wonder why only 4 provinces are playing at the Central Region 7s. Particularly Wellington missing from the draw is strange, but also Poverty Bay and Horowhenua-Kapiti were usually there in the past.

The Central Region Sevens tournament was won by HaWke's Bay (men) and Manawatū (women).

Cooper Flanders (HB) was named the men's player of the tournament and Layla Sae (Manawatū) the women's player of the tournament.

From what I saw neither the NZ Boys or Girls U18s looked very convincing in their first game. We'll see how the games go on Day 2.

Kyan Rangitutia is playing for the NZ Cavaliers team (no.13). That team also has some other players who have been in the NZ Schools team and some from Super 8 schools. Carlos Spencer is one of the coaches again.

The NZ Girls have been thrashed 40-7 by Aust in the SF. Aust will play Japan in the final.

Hopefully the Boys put up a better effort.

In a SF with plenty of lead changes NZ Boys beat Aust 31-21 sealing the game with a 100 m try on FT.

Another thriller in the other SF where New Edition scored out wide with seconds remaining to tie the game at 12-12. Then Stanley Solomon scored from the kickoff for the NZ Cavaliers to win it 17-12, and will play NZ in the final. Solomon will be a good chance to be the MVP.

The Australian Girls were too good in the final beating Japan 38-7.

The NZ Boys beat the NZ Cavaliers 24-19 in a thriller with the winning try scored after time. At one stage it was 6 vs 5 in the Cavs favour.
