NBA Season 2017/18

Big day in the NBA. Biggest game is the pre-finals final, with the winner of the t-wolves v Nuggets game going on, the other one going home.
It's always a little hard to work out, but i think there is something riding on most games today, even if it is just seeding.

So with the Blazers on top vs the Jazz we likely have:
1 Raptors vs 8 Wizards
2 Celtics vs 7 Bucks
3 Sixers vs 6 Heat
4 Cavs vs 5 Pacers1 Rockets vs 8 TWolves
2 Warriors vs 7 Spurs
3 Blazers vs 6 Pelicans
4 Thunder vs 5 JazzSome great match-ups there - the most interesting post season in years.
The Sixers/Heat is a particularly interesting series. The Heat are a tricky side to play and I'd be surprised if the Sixers roll through in 4 or 5. But if they get through the road to the Conference Finals is there, unbelievably.
In the west, the Thunder/Jazz series looms as the best in round one. I think the Warriors have a fairly straightforward run to the conference finals, sadly.
Still have my cash on a Cavs/Warriors finals, but at least they might get a few scares along the way.

Best NBA season in a while. This really is the premier sports league in the US if not the world. Just about every game this year was worth watching.
The best rookie class in probably 15 years. 2003 had Wade, Melo, Bosh and Lebron. This year Simmons(76ers**), Fultz(76ers) Mitchell(Jazz), Kuzma(Lakers), Ball(Lakers), Tatum(Celtics), Markkanen(Bulls)Fox(Kings)
Just about all of these guys start for their franchises. That is crazy to have that many from the same class come NBA ready. Shame about Fultz not being able to really play for most of the season. He deserves another shot at rookie of the year with a proper season. Unfortunate situation with Simmons being eligible as it would have been Mitchells without question
**Simmons was actually drafted the year before but did not play - everyone on this thread follows the NBA so Im not sure why I bothered writing that. Maybe so you know, I know.....

Been a bloody good season. And the finals look pretty open, especially with the Warriors in a complete funk.
The thing i have realised this season? I have an irrational dislike of LeBron James. I don't know why, but i've never warmed to him, at all. And when he gets talked up about "all time" i scoffed. But holy shit, the bloke is a phenom. He's 33, and just had another unreal season. At 33 and his averages are above the career line? And not in a dominant team. That's awesome. And he fucking wins. Like, a lot.

It's pretty impressive, especially as he's a 33 year old who has a ridiculous amount of mileage on his legs. Almost every year of his career he's gone deep into the playoffs(217 career playoff games).
I think he can keep this kind of production up for a few more years at least, as it doesn't look like he's lost much athleticism.
-
@bovidae im an OKC man, before that I was a Sonics man. However, Russell Westbrook, for all his athleticism is a selfish, glory hunting ass. He does amazing things but for me its all overshadowed by his need for the spotlight. I saw him box out his own players today. he fot 20 fucken rebounds today. His centre could be challenging for rebounder of the year but instead Westbrook is getting gimmes to over Shadow the Big O who got his triple doubles fairly. Last year seemed mostly legit but this season hes taking the piss.

@mariner4life Im anti Lebron because he left Cleveland to go to Miami to get an easier path to a ship. Im anti Lebron because he flops. So, so badly flops. Im anti Lebron becasue he says hes the best player in the world. But you can not deny that he is exactly that. He should be slowing down but hes just getting better. Hes never put a foot wrong off the court. Hes well spoken and when he has the opportunity he uses his platform for good. Hes a phenom and when hes done itll be hard not to have him level with Jordan.

I don't blame him for going away to Miami, he always said it was like going to college for him - he grew up in Cleveland (ok, Akron) and had been a superstar and in the spotlight since high school, and then went straight into being the face of the franchise (and city) for 6 years. I don't begrudge him wanting to get away for a time. The TV show announcing it was stupid, but did raise money for charity, so you can't pan it too much.
He's amazing on the court, and just as amazing off it considering how much fame and money he had from such a young age. Most ppl would've gone off the rails at some point. He's a family man, businessman, role model, lots to be admired.

Yeah I saw the box score for OKC yesterday and was like wow Russ only scored 6 but got 19 assists and 20 rebounds. Then I saw BR post that in the 3rd quarter he got a rebound to make his average a triple double for the season. Going into the game he was fine with points/assists but was 9.9 rebounds for the season.
I had the same weird dislike for LBJ again with the decision etc etc. Was a bit of tall poppy. Great off court, amazing on court. Even though he hasn't won every finals series like MJ the amount he has made is crazy.
Ive had my Ball singlet since the start of the season. Embrace the hate.
-
This series is a bit of a litmus test for Russ. With PG and Melo he needs to at least get to the second round, if not the conference finals.
Otherwise it will just continue his (post-KD) career as a guy who chalks up great stats, but puts his own success ahead of his team. And OKC will keep making the playoffs in the 3-7 spot and they'll keep getting knocked out well before the finals.
-
Spurs are too hurt, or too old to beat even this Warriors outfit. Of course, unless my boy Kawhi rises like Lazarus.
That said, i am sure Pop has a couple of things up his sleeve.
What a surprise to hear Russ stat padding, how unlike him...
-
@mariner4life Kawhi ain't coming back.

To the Spurs or at all?
