    @taniwharugby said in Beer thread:

@Hooroo is this just beer going through the same snobbery you have had and still get with some wine drinkers (whisk/e/y as well, and probably coffee and all sorts of other stuff)

But the comment she made where the dude said "Recommendation? I don't think so. I know more about beer than anyone else here!" was probably @MN5 and deserved a good kicking for it!

Assuming you know more about a topic than someone you don't even know is arrogance in the extreme.

Beer, like wines and other alcohol, flavours and enjoyment is all subjective.

I've never said I know more about beer than anyone, far from it.

I do however look at people who drink shit beer with more disdain than Trump looks at Mexicans though.

@MN5 oh well, I feel your look of disdain, I had a Tui (which was warm, but circumstances meant it was fine) a week or 2 back, and a Sol this week, not sure what look you give me for my home brew 🙂

edit: actually had 2 Lion Reds on Friday too

Your opinion would be even worse if you sat and had a beer with me.

It sounds even more effective if you have a filthy hipster beard. I would but my fiancee won't let me grow one.

A craft beer nerd is a complete wimp in front of his missus ... jeeze, who would have picked that ... You'd never see a Whiskey nerds behave like that.

Coffee nerds also don't take shit from their boyfriends

Na I like having sex. A beard prevents that unfortunately. It's enough of an uphill battle with my looks and personality too

Managed to clear the head this morning while watching the Chiefs game.
Would have loved to have tried a lot more of what was on offer but the problem with these events is that even if you go for small serves (1/3 pint) they soon add up on you.
I usually therefore look for stuff I won't see in shops, festival brews and unusual stuff.

I got caught out though when I was looking for a big serve to have with some food (a yummy 16hr smoked brisket) and went to Wild Beer Co. The bloke there talked me into this "Belgian-style Saison with a copious amount of New Zealand hops, freshly harvested Somerset apple juice and wild yeast".
    I hadn't noticed it was a 9%er.
Was bloody nice but caught up on me about half an hour later.

Generally I found things quite a bit different to the NZ approach. A brewery like Garage Project would have had their heads spinning. Any innovation was more around the use of yeasts than stretching flavour boundaries.

I just picked up a 4 pack of "Lord of the Rings SobeRing Thought" for $4.99 at Fresh Choice. Since it's a 1% alcohol beer I thought this would be indicative that it would be undrinkable and I was quite prepared to tip it down the sink.

But, it's not actually bad - it's a very low alcohol darkish beer, which is a bit different to most of the piss weak options and hence it's got quite a malty flavour.

In my ongoing quest for drinkable low alcohol options it's worth a try. I'll try another one in the build-up tomorrow and see whether it's still any good given that I now have mild expectations.

Had a Parrotdog Pandemonium pilsner the other day. Pretty tasty without going overboard with the hops. Will have to give it a proper six bottle sampling.
