Wimbledon Semi Finalist Cameron Norrie is another Kiwi Pom who apparently supports the ABs.
Norrie was a young pro flying the Kiwi flag and asked NZT for some funding to help him. In their wisdom they said no. And that's how we let a guy who would have been the highest ranked NZ tennis player maybe since Anthony Wilding (?) slip through our fingers

Welsh
He came out of Whales
that sounds painful and dangerous.
Edit and from what I read he was born in South Africa and his father was born in Glasgow (outer Wales?) and both parents still live in NZ (great taste).

Great bloke on the court, just as great off the court. Never anything but classy - the Ritchie McCaw of Tennis

Probably should have his own thread. Such a beautiful player to watch in his prime, and part of the most dominant triumvirate the sport has ever seen

Best player of all-time at his prime. Feel fortunate to have been able to follow his whole career. Great bloke and a wonderful ambassador for his sport too.

Strayan Open time.
Can someone tell me how Andy Murray beating some random Italian I've never heard of is a "major upset"?

Where have you been? Berretini is #13 in the world and is a GS finalist IIRC. Having said that, Murray is a nightmare draw for a seeded player. Far better than his ranking

Gauff-Raducanu was a good match to watch. They should have a good rivalry in the coming years.
An enjoyable match. Raducanu had chances to force a third set but made some poor shot choices, especially when Gauff slowed the rallies down. Played well but there are learnings there

You'd hope so, but Raducanu is looking more and more like a one hit wonder. She's never followed up at all on her US open triumph with a string of poor defeats against people she shouldn't lose to. Really hope I'm wrong.
My wife is always a bit suspicious of my motives when I watch her play. And she's 100% right to be.

That Andy Murray match was something else!
Far out. I was up at 5 am and thought I was watching a replay of his first match but realised scores were slightly different. Couldn’t believe it was live. Good sporting start to the day.
Comments after gold
AM “I have a big heart”
Interviewer “Well done, you have a big everything”
AM “My wife might not agree”

Yeah Murray looked completely toast and was clearly not happy with the interviewer being a bit of a dick. But managed to crack a joke.
Fair play!
