I think that we should discuss map projections now. What is everyone's favourite and why? I've always been a fan (shouldn't use that word, the lambert conical supporters will be all over it) of the Mercator. It just makes NZ look bigger. A bit shit for navigation, but the symmetry is nice.
I thought the Mercator had been confirmed to be racist?
You Racist.
In any case, with any of the cylindrical projections, including your racist Mercator.... I much prefer the version with China in the middle, rather than Europe. It just fits so much better, and incidentally with pleasing symmetry. -

These races are over at the start. Boring as shit.
Between that and Team NZ allegedly shopping around for overseas hosts if they retain the Cup, its the first one I can't remember caring much about.
Well local knowledge doesn't appear to have been of any help. LR clearly more manoeuvrable in these conditions and piloted by someone who can work out time and distance.
There should be some pointed questions asked after this shitshow of a race.

NZ govt apparently paid ~ $40M for hosting rights. Do they get any TV broadcast revenue?
Same as the RWC I very much doubt it! It is all about advertising NZ and getting rich idiots in to spend here, sadly CV put a bit of a damper on the last bit.

makes sense if you get GST and PAYE for teams, plus all the visitors spending wonderful overseas cash.
Then Covid. Yeah.
Can't blame them for it - makes rational economic sense, and has a bit of a party too! We're still reaping the rewards of winning in 95 with the viaduct harbour .. the legacy this time will be Quay St and waterfront. Again, just delayed by Covid.
Hope we win though, and get to host again...

Much better start this time. Amazing what can happen when you work out the time and speed to cross the line at near full speed. No doubt that was the discussion at the debrief - going slow risks going off foil, which means you lose.

Yeah, that would be good for recouping the $210M spent on hosting infrastructure!
Though hopefully much of that money is spent on infrastructure that will be useful even after the cup is gone.

not far off the Eden Park upgrade... I enjoy that very much
As I saida bout RWC 2011 - if you want a good party, ya have to spend some cash on some piss eh

I feel sorry for the commentators who have to try and pretend something interesting is happening after the start.
Like test cricket?
Sort of but in test cricket the commentators are much more relaxed. They can tell stories and don't have to pretend that every ball is exciting.

that's what I liked about the recent India england pitches - every ball was 'must watch'
