@sammyc How has Tim Perry improved since his days in Auckland where he would come on for the last 10 and give up a couple of penalties. A human accordion at scrums time. Can't understand this and he is 29? Yes props are not loose forwards but they are becoming more dynamic and have to be.
I thought that was Tim Perry, then I assumed I must be wrong and I'm thinking of another player, but I guess I'm right.
@Chris-B What's your thoughts on him? Has he looked the goods for the Mako?
Nepia - see my thoughts half a dozen posts above.
He's good at NPC level, but I'm quite startled that he's the next cab off the rank!

@chris-b any news on reg goodes? Been out of rugby for over a year I believe. I think he would have been picked ahead of Perry had he been fit
Brendon Edmonds is the same, I expect he'd also have been picked over Perry.

Powerlifters; props, defensive linemen in NFL etc. are surprisingly quick in a straight line over short distances.
Not sure that applies to Franks..

Depends how slow you expected him to be?

I guess that with props they go a lot off feedback from Cron from his workshops. He can see how they may fit in to the setup.
A remember when the selectors were mentioning Moody while he was relativity unknown and not looking anything special. Seem to recall that his strength was considered well up there and basic technique sound. It was experience and tricks of the trade that he needed to learn. -
4 hookers is a bit of a cop-out. Hansen said they weren't taking an apprentice but they obviously weren't prepared to drop Harris for Aumua either. Harris can't make an impression if he doesn't play. I assume both he and Aumua play the Baabaas.
Have read that they plan to split the squad for the midweek game. I'm guessing they will grab another halfback as a reserve along the way but it looks like Harris and Aumua to go with the seconds.

Was hoping they would take A Ioane. He is clearly quality. I wonder if he fails the no dickheads policy assessment. Are they going to play Squire at 8 for the game Read misses?
Surely if Akira fails the no dickheads policy then so does Squire. I mean just look at the guy, he has a raging fucking mullet FFS.
-
@pakman Haha, something like that, although I'm hoping for a few more who are still playing Super Rugby in New Zealand, particularly players that missed out on AB selection. Last year, they had Ellis, Nanai, Buckman, Taufua, Faddes, Fatialofa, Goodes (now injured), Shields, L Whitelock, Mo'unga and Tamanivalu (now in the ABs), and later also Ben Franks.

Good point.... I'm all for dropping guys with dumb haircuts. Would probabaly result in a few more Canterbury players getting picked

Not comparable, everyone knows why Todd is in the ABs ... Perry's inclusion has taken a lot of injuries and presumably a bump on the head to Hansen, even Chris B is stunned.
Do we have to drop caveman Whitelock under your new haircut policy?

It was a joke, @broughie told me to "drop the Matt Todd thing" in another thread.... I can't recall posting anything about him at all.
I can't be bothered arguing about Perry....
I mentioned above I'm as surprised as anyone else he got picked. But I guess it's for his set piece ability as he isn't the 4th loose forward everyone seems to want at loosehead. -
The ABs are not the only team struggling with injuries
