Very solid start overall. Latham will be annoyed at playing at a wide one but Jeet and Kane have applied themselves well. It will only get easier as the ball gets older - advantage BCs.

Anywho solid start for the craps, love to see Kane get a decent score. Feels like he hasn't contributed as much as he should this summer

Little graphic on the cricinfo page showing NZs best 2nd wicket stands v South Africa, and they are pretty shit. Unsurprising when you see Matt Horne is involved in two of them, and so is some guy called Darrin Murray who you don't even remember.

After a fantastic innings Jeet gets out in the weakest fashion possible, chips a very soft catch to mid wicket. Frustrating, but he's done a job and it's time for our middle order to take advantage.

Some us remember him... Right up there with Blair Hartland as one of our greatest ever punts...

Remember when the two Blairs ( Hartland and Pocock ) opened? ( shudders )

Bugger - typical...just when we're getting into a position of strength off hobbles Rossco.

Cricinfo says "In comes the out of form Henry Nicholls".

    http://www.espncricinfo.com/new-zealand-v-south-africa-2016-17/content/current/player/539511.html

Looks to me that he's had quite a productive 2017.

And while I'm typing that they have an awful mix up and Kane gets back by the skin of his teeth.

Nicholls plays some nice shots but his defensive technique is nowhere near where it needs to be. Goes hard at the ball and often gets caught in two minds - his most common dismissal is sticking the bat out to balls that are not hitting the stumps.

I do feel for Guppy. Forced to open when he'd be far more suited to the middle order, doesn't have great success so is dropped. Meanwhile Baz retires freeing up the number 5 slot and we're persisting with a bloke that has about half the talent and worse technique.
