Watched the game at Mt Smart in a mutha-fucker downpour.

    Some thoughts:

    • I couldn't see shit in the first half. Rain, rain, hail, rain.
    • When I could see, I thought the Warriors would win in the end. They battled tough but....
    • The Storm are the New England Patriots of the NRL. Cam Smith is Tom Brady. Without him the Storm would be a mid-ladder team.
    • Just like the Pats, Melbourne do a lot of little dirty things like holding back players in a kick chase, deliberately standing in the way of the play-the-ball.
    • Nasty head knock for RTS. He's becoming the new Matthew Ridge for the Warriors and that's NOT GOOD.
    • Albert Vete and Charlie Gubb are really ineffective. Need James Gavet in there and Ben Matulino back healthy.
    • Bunty Afoa is developing into a good secondrower. Played the whole 80 minutes, made 50 tackles, ran hard with the ball, does all the little things right.
    • Sam Lisone is going to have a Solomone Kata-type break through this season. Dude's a beast.
    • Ken Maumalo had a good night under the high ball. I don't think Manu Vatuvei will get his spot back.
    • $5 to the subeditor who makes a good pun about the fact the Storm won in a storm.

When i saw the weather forecast I knew that would play into the hands of the Storm ,

80 minute arm wrestles are their bread and butter , they seem to do it week in week out in this long season , tick off the wins with little fanfare , another day another dollar

    You clearly couldn't see ....

Also, Cronk was waaaaay more influential than Smith in this match - the guy is bit unheralded in comparison to his origin teammates.

I watched a little bit of this.

Simon Mannering is bloody good - endless determination.

Would have made an excellent blindside flanker for the Mako$. How the hell did the league scouts find him in Nelson?

You obviously couldn't see anything as well. Smith is the mastermind in that team and Cronk works off that. Every play-the-ball, Smith was controlling the team's attack ala Tom Brady. It is sort of what we expected Luke to be doing for the Warriors but Johnson is again being made to do all the organising.

I didn't say he doesn't do this most of the time, this match he was doing his impersonation of Ennis* but everyone gives it a pass because he's who he is.

Luke did that role last week bloody well until he went off and the team fell apart until the end. The Warriors will never win if Johnson has to organise. I wonder why he hasn't managed to develop this string to his bow like other talented players do? JT wasn't born with it, neither was DC (Dan Carter for any blinkered leaguies out there), maybe this is the year for SJ but with KF there he might not get the chance to develop much.

Edit: And yep, it's the same old discussion with SJ, no apologies for that ....

What else that gets overlooked with smith , not only is he good with his organisational skills , most teams are runnng 2 hookers , smith plays 80 minutes every week and 'tops the tackle count .

Very smart 5th tackle option with about 3 minutes to go by the Knights. They tried to push over in the corner so when the Tits got the ball they were in the right corner on the two metre line and could really only pass/run left.

Like I said last week, this Knights squad is actually not too shabby.

@Sneakdefreak they look well coached; they've got high energy; and they seem united. They could jag 10 wins this year

Hmm, maybe the Sharks won't be so terrible this year - just smashed the Raiders in Canberra 42-16.

usually takes a while , sometimes half a season before you get a true indication of who the contenders are ,

Every season you get teams who come out of the blocks hard but cant sustain it and teams that start slow and build later

Then you have the Warriors, start shit, carry on shit. Mid - late season recovery. Then fall into a heap
...next season back to the hype and false hope.

Penrith got smashed last week so smashes Wests 36-2 this week. Bad game by the Tigers who were actually playing well until the last minutes of the first half.

@antipodean Gonna blow up the NRL and things like Mad Monday. Serious culture change needed at the NSW clubs.

@Sneakdefreak the only thing that surprises me is that people are surprised. Okay, the charity jersey thing is new, and really shitty.

But rampant cocain use? Pouring money through pokies? betting on NRL through side accounts? None of this shit is new, and you only hear about the guys that get caught.

Any rugby league cheerleader that tries the "isolated incident of a troubled young man" should be slapped on TV. This is a wide problem across professional sport. These young guys are rich and bored, you need to give them something to do.
