nicholls is struggling out there..
Business as usual unfortunately. He gets a charmed run. There's a #5 spot waiting for Guppy when he's fit again...
I hope so re Guptill. He's got potential to be an excellent test no. 5 imo.

That said, at 54 off 82 he does have a chance of kicking on for a first test ton.

BJ in before CDG. CDG not a good enough bowler to be batting 8.
Not a lot to suggest he's a good enough batsman to be batting at six, so I'm not completely surprised to see this this shift.
He's been done like a dinner here by Shakib - you've got to think that a recall for Jimmy Neesham is on the cards. Seems like a much better bet as a test batsman than CdGH - maybe not quite as good as a bowler - certainly doesn't have a bag to match that one Colin got against Pakistan.

I don't see anything from de Grandhomme's bowling that makes me think he's up to test standard.Nor me, really - except that he got 6/41 against Pakistan. I'm inclined to think it was a fluke, but it's a bit hard to drop him three tests later - especially when he's garnered a few useful runs as well.
He seemed an odd pick to me, when they picked him for tests in the first place.
Meanwhile - the squad for the return Chappell-Hadlee has been named.
I'd be inclined to start with:
Guppy, Latham (wktkpr), Williamson, Taylor, Broom, Neesham, de Grandhomme, Santner, Southee, Ferguson, Boult.
With Henry, Munro and Blundell on the sideline.
Plenty of batting and bowling options in that - as well as some firepower in each - even if not particularly reliable.

Essentially my point. Don't get what he brings to the team.
A slow medium trundler who bats at 8.
Neesh or Herb he is not.
I'd prefer a genuine one or t'other rather than a neither.

A few trolls on FB suggesting Rossco only gets runs against 'minnows'. There's five nation's above us in test cricket rankings and I definitely recall hundreds against most of them ( yet to get one vs S.A. I think )
Not only that his 290 away against Australia was 'ages ago'....right.
Inflated modern averages aside he's still two runs clear of Martin Crowe, he really has had a terrific career, how he wasn't an unanimous selection in an all time NZ test XI by Stuff 'experts' ( one picked Nathan Astle ) is completely beyond me.

West Indies had one of them as captain until recently!

He may as well try and convince AB fans that Richie McCaw wasn't that good. What a moron.

His record holds up okay when you break it down. Only criticism I would make is that he doesn't score a lot of runs away. His away stats get a big boost by big runs in Zimbabwe. His record against South Africa is poor but he does well enough against everyone else. I think Ross Taylor would basically play for every international team in the world.

Well you can use selective stats to back up any argument if you delve enough into them and even the very best fall short against certain opposition here and there.
As you say I can't think of a side playing that wouldn't pick him at 4 or 5 in a lineup. That's not to say he'd make a 'World XI' ( Warner, Amla, Cook, Root, KW, Smith, Kohli, ABDV would all get in ahead of him ) but I think he'd slot into any team going around today. High praise indeed.
