Just hit up you tube for the try of the year. Its a good team try but its against Italy. I was hoping for something a bit more spectacular I guess.
Of the nominations it was the best one but I probably would have selected some other finalists
They seem to flavour length of field tries with no more than two phases -

World Rugby Team of the Year: All Blacks
Wow. Totally ignored the two teams with an Olympic Gold medal and World Series.
RIGGED!
As has been said: we are the Mossad of World Rugby

@Stargazer Terrible camera work on all of these. Who wants to watch rugby from behind the posts?!
I do.
-
The news reports kept saying it was Jamie Heaslip' try against France, so I thought they were talking about this one -
-
@Pot-Hale That's a fine try but just a tad old for the 2016 TOTY.
I thought this years one was excellent and I've seen much better than the TJP one. The selection criteria must include the length of play needed to fit in a short video.

Indeed. For next year, I don't think Henshaw's try in the final minutes against Ne....
Ooops......
Lovely weather we're having today, isn't it?
-
@Pot-Hale not really, its a bit breezy here.
-
@ACT-Crusader So it looks like ref of the year is no longer for the best ref in the game. That's a shame.
All power to both the winners for what they have achieved, but for me, referee of the year should go to the best referee on the planet. If thats the same person for 10 years in a row, then so be it.
-
@MajorRage yeah I'm not one to usually criticise any refs, but I am genuinely astonished that Rasta Rasivhenge got the award. Some of his performances throughout the season, including the Olympics were pretty poor I reckon.
Congratulations to him though.
Alhambra Nievas is also a 7s ref and she was nominated last year but Owens got the award
-
For those that watched the Black Ferns-Wallaroos test at Eden Park last month, Nievas was the ref in this game.
I thought the winners of the player awards were predictable and well deserved.
-
I see the Fijians are not happy about the ABs and Hansen getting the awards.

TBH given how utterly meaningless these awards are it would have been nice to give Fiji something.
-
7s is barely rugby
-
@mariner4life What a nonsense. It's just another form of rugby, requiring somewhat different skill sets and physical preparation. Good for tournaments, not for competitions.

Jonah was interviewed back in the day and said he liked Sevens cos there was more space but you could still smash people. That holds more sway than anything you can broach on the subject Stargazer....
Sniff......
I miss Jonah

World Rugby to add 12 inductees to Hall of Fame at grand opening
The full list of new inductees (with induction number and country) is: Brian O'Driscoll (121, Ireland), Shane Williams (122, Wales), Jeremy Guscott (123, England), Lawrence Dallaglio (124, England), Heather Moyse (125, Canada), John Dawes (126, Wales), GPS Macpherson (127, Scotland), Arthur Gould (128, Wales), Jonny Wilkinson (129, England), Daniel Carroll (130, Australia and USA), Daisuke Ohata (131, Japan) and Maggie Alphonsi (132, England).

How about a gold medal in the Olympic Games? Would that suffice as sufficient reward for the outstanding Fiji Sevens team?
The party and celebration for that gold medal will linger on for ever.
If you need to receive some meaningless award from the top to celebrate your year on top of your gold medal, then I strongly suspect the issue lies with you, not World Rugby.
