Black Caps v Pakistan

Latham goes for a well made 80. Got the time in the middle that I requested...
What's the plan from here. A lead of 350ish and 40 minutes at them tonight would be ideal.
-
To be fair, when Williamson went out it was probably due to the TV commentators talking about what score we should declare at.
At effectively 230/3 with 44 overs left in the day it's reaching the point where you might start to think about setting up a declaration. I'd be starting to think about a batting order of CDG, Southee, Henry, Wagner, BJ, Santner.

Sort of depends on how many overs they're going to play tomorrow. Presumably 100? The over rate today has been appalling and seems like we won't get the planned 100 overs in today.
But, if 100 overs tomorrow is the case you might want to be a bit more conservative. Lead of 370 and 30 minutes at them? Would be a shame to draw the series with a get-able declaration.

Since tea it looks like we are trying to bore them into submission, but not allow their bowlers any maidens.
7 runs off last 6 overs, with pretty much so nothing threatening from what I'm following on cricinfo
9 runs off next 5 balls. Cracking.

And the rest ... Everybody is writing that this is a great pitch for batting now. We need at least another 100 runs from here.
And as I type ... CDG is out.
Sounds right on the pitch - the guy who needs eye surgery is on 89*
Reckon this is one declaration to err on the safe side for.

Watling's strike rate has more than doubled!
From 5 to 13...
Pet peeve of mine that in test matches players don't increase their strike rate enough before a declaration. If we are not going to declare then why did CdG bat like he did? If we are going to declare then why is Watling batting like this? I would have sent Santner or even Southee out there. It is tougher to accelerate in tests but I think Watling could do a bit more.
-
why declare? Pakistan haven't batted a full day in the series. Take the loss out of the picture (we are 1-0 up in the series) and back ourselves to take 10 wickets tomorrow.
-
Well, I've got no idea what they're doing - aside from waiting for Rossco to get his hundred.
Watling making no effort whatsoever to push the scoring along - he's batting for a draw with 5 off 31.
Doull has some half-arsed theory that they think they already have enough runs and just want Ross to get his hundred. If that's the case and BJ is just there playing for his average, why didn't they send someone like Southee or Wagner out there, who don't need to worry about their averages?
Styris making more sense and saying get on with it.

If BJ (Southee!!!) had gone at run a ball, we'd be 380 ahead now and that's the loss pretty much taken out of the picture - and still some time for Rossco to get his hundred and get the lead over 400.
They're just fucking about!
-
Pushing the game along is such and Australian thing to say. Do we really want to be taking lessons from them right now?
-
Ton number 16. Incredible record (by NZ standards). Poor run of form recently but he's one of our very best, pleased to see him back in the runs.
And we declare to give ourselves a few overs at them tonight.

If they have enough, you declare. If Taylor is on 26, 96 or 296 it shouldn't matter.
Great hundred from him, however. Batted at a good rate and played confident cricket.

Seemed to me like we were taking lessons from Todd Blackadder - falling asleep at the wheel!!!
