I wonder how the 'reprimand' went?

Boss "Hey guys, we can't do that"

    J&M "ok"

Any publicity is good publicity - that rings true for radio DJ's for sure.

Fooph! $8k. That must really sting.......

I think that's at the very upper end of penalties that BSA can hand out.

The financial penalties aren't really the deterrent, it's more the reputational damage and people will turn away (if in fact anyone is listening).

Man, that is a pathetic amount for a maximum.

I'm picking they didn't go backwards in rating after that show. Since that show they have been to Chicago, Vegas, Melbourne Cup, off to do Election in US and a weeks skiing.

Latest ratings comment I can find is from July: "A revitalised Radio Hauraki was pushed hard but still languishes".

I doubt they were ever high in past couple of decades. I would bet they are higher than before they started there though

@Hooroo listening to some of their shows, you wonder if they are always high

That's the number that puts you instantly live on air when answered, is it?

I'm sure they have a choice.

    Often, yes.

More often than not when I have rung in it has been straight to live on air.

No filtering by the producer at all... interesting. Were you ringing in for competitions to be in the first nine callers (or whatever) for a competition at the time?

And whether or not it was competition time:

Unknowingly talking to Heath, who answered the call, Stokes requested to speak to someone off air. She was then told that she was off-air, when in actual fact her conversation was being broadcast live.

Fancy telling someone they're off-air, when they're not.

    @Donsteppa

No, remember it isn't a main breakfast show so is fairly easy to get on. Less so when competitions are run at a point of time.

I was on the line when she rang I think and hung up when I heard they answered her.

Even when winning a comp, they take your details rather than a producer.

And they tend to know who's rinign too and often answer calls they don't recognise as "somebody new to the show"

Ring between 6 and 8 and I bet you get on air easily enbough outside of when comps are being run

I was thinking of Radio Sport having fewer listeners than Hauraki but always going via a producer, but I guess that's needed given the amount of talkback they get through.

I guess it's a small thing to many, but saying someone is off-air when they're not really annoys me - mainly for reasons due to my day job.

I can see how it irks people and I'm picking they won't do it again and/or no other mothers will be so dumb

@Donsteppa although talkback you expect if you do get through you will likely be live on air, but even then a couple of times when I have they usually told me I will be on hold until end of ads or whatever.

They always seem to know the names of the callers straight away on some of the talkback shows - I'd figured they'd stopped to ask - unless they just have a small pool of callers 🙂

@Donsteppa there is 1 guy from Waikato who calls up all the time, I recognize his voice, but the 3 times I have got fed up over something and called, they asked my name and then put me on soon after saying we have TR from Whangarei.
