The blow is softened somewhat by having two Marshes.
Now it's kind of exciting to think about which one will fail harder
Their old man was hardly a superstar either so fucked if I know how they get picked but Shaun Marsh has an average just over 40 which puts him in the very good category for now.

The summer of cricket has officially started. Whoop whoop, and what better way to kick things off with an SA vs Aus test match. A lot of talk about sledging etc so should be a pretty fiery encounter.
I hear the deck is as flat as the last couple of years, which is a shame.
On the plus side: working from home the rest of the week!

He was the kind of opener we needed at the time. Stick in the mud and all that.

Which is probably why the Marsh boys were picked. They are pretty effective over there when there is a bit of extra bounce and not much else happening from the deck. I'm expecting a run fest. Weather forecast is 24 tomorrow then heating up on Friday and then 35 on Saturday.

are the flat, lifeless decks in Aus now the worst in the world?

Certainly the variety appears to be gone. Can blame dropin wickets I suppose, but the WACA has no excuses because its a single-sport arena.
I think Starc was having a crack about getting "no home advantage" like they've been facing overseas.
of course they don't. CA want runs, and tests that go 5 days. How do you get those? Flat decks that stay together for 6 days.
Other countries (except NZ, who have similar goals) just want to win.
-
@mariner4life which is fine, but they've lost sight of the fact that us ripping teams out in three days puts tickets at a premium, and allows people to have half a weekend as well.
In fact, if they were smart, they'd put some spice back in the wickets and start games on Friday.

Yeah I was going to say, we're giving them a bloody good run for their money on the "lifeless flat decks" department.
NZC if you're reading, which I'm sure you are - a strongly worded message out to all groundsmen to prepare some green seamers please. That's what we're known for. Then watch Boult, Henry and even Southee look like world beaters all summer long.
-
@No-Quarter just like the Aussies set up decks so they can call Voges, Khawaja, and Shaun Marsh world class
-
after years of railing against the Indians and their spin-from-the-fourth-over hometown burners, i have come around. I would rather watch an 800 run result test in India than a 1,500 run test in Adelaide any day.
-
Elgar gone and SA are in the poo a bit now. Their batting isn't quite what it was, pretty reliant on Amla to score big.

Someone on cricinfo saying the pitch looks lively. It fucking isn't - Starc and Hazlewood are just bowling well.
They're a pretty formidable opening combo that's for sure.
SA need Faf to go big here. He's done well in Aus in the past.
