Stadium of Canterbury

@kiwiwomble What has happened to The Den as I thought it had the ability to hold slightly over 20,000? Maybe the visitors end has been closed to prevent the inevitable trouble it's occupation will bring.

I remember 1993 Bledisloe in Dunedin. They added extra capacity. 39,000 in a city of about 105,000 at the time.
Let alone seeing 1970s Okara Park full with 30k etc, or say 1983 Rotorua for the Lions match with 30k - each in a town of about 40k at the time.
It was very cheap to maintain a ground that is 85% grass banks. Just a bit of gas money for the tractor mower.
That was the first ever million dollar gate in NZ. The ORFU set up the tent village at Bathgate Park for pre and post match festivities for profit and also to take pressure off Dunedin's bars. Massive attendance from visiting fans domestically and internationally.

About time you useless fucks on the council,
-
This is the annoying stuff, not only should the funding be more secure before deciding what to build, i know plenty of people from the surrounding districts that signed the petition, hell actively campaigned on the socials for others to do so
pretty unfair to the actual residents of chch

If you don't want to contribute don't attend matches at the stadium,Very annoying article it is a regional stadium not a Chch stadium,This attitude really pisses me off.

This has been a great demonstration of how broken local councils can get.

Don't worry, I'm a Selwyn rates payer and I'll let them know that we should contribute. I'd like that far more than a new fucking park in Rolleston ffs.

I am afraid you are correct,
-

still discussing it after a decision have been made about size etc is pretty fucked up
-
-
@kiwiwomble does anyone get the feeling the council simply doesn't want to build it?
-
@antipodean i think what i fearer would happen is happening, too much effort to try and get the perfect stadium, which has delayed things so much that the cost is far exceeding the money they received for the old one so more investment needed form council etc which makes it even more likely to become a white elephant
Probably could have had a 25-30k stadium without a roof several years ago
