Like Deans, it's a brave move. Same news cycle as NZ, our closest neighbour, and if he gets good we suffer. Really hope they got the chequebook out.
Must have been something weird with NZR for him to shoot off to Aus.
Yeah it has that feel about it that something has crashed and burned between Schmidt and the NZR.

Disagree. Wallabies being good is good for NZ.
Wish him all the best. Hopefully he can get the Wallabies firing by the Lions next year.
Rationally, absolutely.
Emotionally, if he coaches the Wobs to a win over us, people will react.

Fuck off. Hope you fail.
i hope he's a glorious success.
Like it or not kiwis, we need Aussie to be good. And alive. The ONLY way that is happening is if the Wallabies can win shit. Starting with the Bledisloe, and then the Lions.
If Joe can't win the Bledisloe back, and then they get humped 3-0 by the Lions, and fail at their home World Cup, then we're all alone at the ass end of nowhere, and economics will crush us.
It might also put the shits up NZ rugby a little if we have to actually work to win stuff down here again.

Somewhat surprised at some of the negative kiwi reaction re Joe becoming the Wallabies coach. I was expecting 'mild disappointment' at him taking the job, not effigies being burnt.
To paraphrase Byron Kelleher it’s 1999 all over again

I don't have a problem with him doing it, it is the fact he was so reticent to take a role with the abs. But straight into head coach in Oz, like wtf?
Second tier nation. Totally different
-
And if Joe takes a ragtag Aussie team and beats NZ does that make him God to Razor’s Jesus?
-
@MiketheSnow well that's the thing: AB fans have a get-out-of-jail-free card via Eddie's utter incompetence.
All Joe has to do is pick the right players and point them in the same direction, and we can win the odd game against the ABs.
Rennie did it, after all.

two years is actually a very good move.

I'm strangely positive about this.
The Wobs need a really good coach and probably even a couple of wins against us (blurk).
If it turns out that he is the god of coaching, and the Wobs suddenly become World No. 1, I reserve the right to change my mind and hate on him proper.

Why make something out of it, he was offered a job, and there wasn't equivilant in NZ so he took it. Don't forget NZR offeref him a crack at ABs when Foster got gig, he at that stage had decided head coaching (at test level) wan't for him for a while, and so he had break, Foster wi=orked a while to get him back in test arena. Rumour is he wasn't interested in working with Razor, so no probs.
I say all the best to him, and not being nasty, but he is coaching anther country's test team, so is basically dead to me(and not wishing him any ill will) -

I have my reasons which I have outlined previously. My petty grudge has lasted 43 years ... Was prepared to let it ride while he was helping us. But fuck him now.
Otherwise I'd agree with you.
