I have noticed a huge drop off in rugby coverage at pubs.
Which was an error Rugby made in the switch to 9: no public venue agreement. And the fact that V'Landys was always going to fight it tooth and nail. There is a new move in Stan to get things into pubs, but obviously requires different hardware to a STB. Some twitter account called Stan At Your Local.
Regardless: pubs aren't going to show a game that isn't popular, even if it is on FTA. The "rugby australia's stupid moves" is a rich field, and leaving Foxtel isn't the worst of them. Staying with Rupert was going to be even less money and promotion.

And a lot of people already have foxtel
Foxtel terrestrial and satellite have been in decline for years. Minimum of $50 to get Rugby as well as a bunch of shit like Sky News.
Foxtel Now and associated services are growing, however. It is still $50 (from memory) to get Sport on top of the shit channels, but much easier to deal with over the internet than a STB.
Kayo $25 a month - add $5 per screen. You get a lot of sport for that, but no rugby.
Stan with Sport is $25 a month for standard def. Another $31 if you want HD. And $36 if you want 4K. So similar to Kayo, for different sports.
Therefore if you're a rugby follower primarily, I don't see how it is a difficult argument to save yourself $230 a year to ditch Fox for rugby, or spend on other services if you want them.
You can keep rugby AND other sports by paying Stan and Kayo. I don't give a fuck about NRL, AFL, or other sports who are splitting their time between FTA and payTV, so I have Stan.

I wonder how many viewers have stopped watching Super Rugby as a result of the coverage being on Stan?
If they choose to pay Foxtel to support shit like Sky News, and don't want to watch rugby, well... it's their money.

I also don't get the "nobody ever sees rugby because it's on Stan".
Rugby League shows some of its games on FTA, just like Rugby Union. The rest are behind a paywall. The cost is about the same for Kayo and Stan.
It is a bullshit argument, particularly for those rugby people complaining about it, yet who were happy to throw twice that at Foxtel for sport and fuck all else of value.
I don't get how you don't get that argument. I have noticed a huge drop off in rugby coverage at pubs. And a lot of people already have foxtel meaning rugby is no longer exposed to the channel flicker. You now have to go out of your way to fire up Stan to watch rugby. Not to mention having to pay extra every month on top of the normal Stan subscription for their sports channel. I pay the extra month because I can't imagine not having access to rugby. I do not watch any other sport on Stan, It's not exactly value for money for me, but I don't have much choice and I have the money. I wonder how many viewers have stopped watching Super Rugby as a result of the coverage being on Stan?
I have Stan solely for the rugby. If rugby moved, I'd drop Stan, which would shit my brother, with whom I share my account.
I was at a licensed Rugby Club last weekend which has a private account for public display- no other way for them to show SR games.

Rugby is why I got Stan but unfortunately I am now invested in a few of their shows so the bastards got me.

Kayo is a crap app so I'm glad that the rugby is on Stan.
I intermittently watch shows on Stan but even so it's worth the money for me.
Not having a public venue agreement was a silly move by RA, but agree with @nta that Fox would have just screwed the game and they would have got way less promotion than they currently get with Stan.

I remember it being a godsend when it started but the number of people I see complaining about the app service these days is not insignificant.
The A-League followers furious with Paramount+ are bigger in number.

It's been fine for me outside of a few odd occasions, whereas Kayo is shit every time I use it.

@KiwiMurph "shuffle the deck chairs, Jeeves, we've got icebergs to hit!"
It all sounds great but these guys are only dealing with the top end of things, and completely ignoring where the fanbase (mostly) comes from: grassroots.
I think they do it fairly well in QLD and the smaller Unions, but as part of the realignment, NSW Rugby needs actual reform below the professional level.
Too many competitions. No vision for the future.
