Those two only. Southee won't do much.

Can't blame a number 10 for that, but looks to me like a pitch you have to force yourself to play forward on regardless of instincts, unless it's dropped really short.

Yep you are spot on there that is exactly what you have to do to survive.

Philips will have to redeem himself with a decent wicket haul. And it Mitch and Ravindra can get it to move, who knows? But I see us well on the back foot now. We may have just surrendered the test

Hopefully O’Rourke can get a couple before the end of play.
Disappointing we lost 6 wkts for 62 runs..

Not quite as bad as 10 for 46, but still bad...

Yeah but we were 197/4 we had done some hard work and threw it away.

Totally agree. What a wasted opportunity

259 simply isn't enough, even with the benefit of not having to bat last.

Latham, Young, Ravindra and Santner looked decent.

Most of the other guys were flailing around - even though Devon got runs.

Our spinners are unlikely to be good enough to run through the Indians like Sundar did to us, so unless something odd happens, I think we're likely already cooked.

Ajaz will need a 10-for again for very few runs...

Though - Southee takes his traditional early wicket.

One for not many before stumps is a decent result, keeps the door ajar for us but we'll need to come out strong tomorrow morning

The joys of fielding a Test number 6 with a batting average of 35.

Nothing wrong with a test average of 35 at number 6. That isn't the problem. The fact that he's averaging sub-20 for the last year, , and been poor in Asia is.

I really like Blundell's batting. But .... it's time. New keeper for England series IMO. Got to keep re-newing this jaded team.

Fletcher and Cleaver had purple patches/domestic peaks that tailed off a season or 2 ago. Looks like they may suffer from bad timing. Mitch Hay in pole position, a bit lucky in his timing, probably a bit earlier than is ideal. But is mainly a selection call that needs to be made to keep the over-32 year olds cohort on their toes and hungry , rather than pressure from player(s) below.

Yeah generally your number six batsman is a keeper or an all rounder ( all rounder in the genuine sense or in an occasionally bowls so we’ll call him an all rounder in a New Zealand sense )

35 is very typical, again provided they do something else too.

Southee only needs another 47 wickets to beat Sir Paddles and become our greatest ever.

At the rate he’s taking them at the moment he might need 47 tests to actually get there though.

I live in hope, but I’m not sure how much success our two orthodox spinners will have. Ashwin and Washington bowled with variety, varying their off breaks and even then we were looking good-ish at 4/200.
