@Crazy-Horse India managing to lose 7/54 on this pitch makes me nervous.

We need two guys to make 30, two guys to get to 20 and a few others just to scratch a couple of runs.

It's not too much to ask, is it?!!

I wish we had Mark Chapman to bat at 8! 🙂

We might have to have this won by lunch or the rain will come I think

Or hold on until lunch and hope the rain saves us.

Betfair has India at $4.70, us at $25 and a draw at $1.35

Anyone know why? Is the pitch a road or is rain forecast? In any case a draw would be maaaasive for us

remember this? One of the all time underdog victories if we pull this off - particularly without Kane.

Also, it looks like it's been 15 years since india dropped a home test to anyone but Aus and Eng

If the weather looks sketchy, but play starts, we should just go for broke. No shame in going all Bazball and reaching for a famous win. No one will remember a flaccid draw

    Couldn’t agree more.

If the weather is looking dodgy we have three pinch hitters in Philips, Henry and Southee who can be promoted to have a swing too.

Ok, maybe not Southee, with all the runs he got in the first innings hes due a run of at least ten shit scores.

India don’t have Waqar and Wasim

…unfortunately they do have Bumrah, Ashwin and Jadeja.

Latham Conway and Young all scored at a decent clip last time out. I'd at least start with them, to blunt any action with the new ball, then depending on where we are at we chould always shunt someone up for a big slog. I'd expect everyone will be well aware of the weather forecast and the equation

The pitch still looked pretty fresh, I think our batsmen are more equipped to deal with seaming wickets than spinning ones

Win, lose or draw the difference between this test and the last Sri Lankan one is huge.

Is Latham THAT much of a better captain than Southee ?

Superb batting by Rachin, absolutely frustrating the Indians.

His parents are from Bangalore, right? If so they'll be loving this.

Yeah he spent a bit of time in Bangalore when he was young. So pretty cool for him to get a century like that at his second home.

I think he also was sent there to practise as a kid? Might be a good idea for some of our other young (potential) guns in the future!

And is Southee that much better batting when he isn't Captain?

His father runs the Hutt Hawks. Who toured / tour India each season. They go to that part of India each time as that is where he has connections.

I think he is that much better. But everyone has picked their form up as well, so multifactorial reason for our improvement, as always

If Southee was captain, entirely possible that everything up until about the 40th over of India's innings (ish) happens the same. From that point though, Latham largely set good fields, made sensible bowling choices, and held his nerve.

Ultimately though, this win is more indicative of the fact that Henry and O'Rourke have bowled excellently in tandem, and Ravindra + Conway batted really well... easy to forget, we were not a million miles off in the first test v SL.

In hindsight the SL basically feels like a warmup. Which is not professional.

I thought Latham's captaincy once Pant was out was excellent. Ramped up the pressure on the Indians big time, seized the initiative, and the bowlers came through for him
