I'm prepared fora humiliating defeat, possibly being saved by rain.
What has happened to the black caps over the last couple years, really gone downhill from our recent lofty heights.
Because of Boult, Taylor retired and Williamson always injured and out of form? This could get ugly.
We have fallen off a cliff because our golden generation has retired or are near retirement, and we haven't been able to replace them with younger players of promise. In fact Stead has barely introduced any young players, preferring short term fixes like Santner and Bracewell who are simply not fit for purpose

Because of Boult, Taylor retired and Williamson always injured and out of form?..and a coach that has been in the job too long, lacking innovation to keep us at the top when some of those players retired. We still have the talent, but we are under performing.

Betfair has India at $4.70, us at $25 and a draw at $1.35
Anyone know why? Is the pitch a road or is rain forecast? In any case a draw would be maaaasive for us
Assuming it gets dry enough in between and we get any days play, rain predicted most days for next 10

I don’t know about that. A lot of guys are dropping in form and perhaps finding out where their level really is

This is 100% right. The team of just a few short years back was generational. I’m not surprised the replacements aren’t up to it.
Very similar to the early 90s when Paddles and others called it a day

the biggest fall off has been...
for as long as i have been a NZ cricket supporter (and that is a looong time now) nearly every time we find a great bowler, they get injured almost immediately, and stay injured, meaning the promise never gets delivered on. Imagine if we got 60+ tests out of Shane Bond?)
Then comes Trent Boult, Tim Southee, and Wags. A trio of ever presents, who are all high quality, and all who compliment each other. They are all gone now, and guess what? Every tie a bowler looks half decent, they are out hurt.

I believe that is down to poor rehab and conditioning plus a too smaller build up load which means a weaker body structure.

What do you think NZ can do better in terms of getting the necessary build up load?

Bet on India.
When they started their home season, India needed seven wins out of their ten remaining Tests to put beyond reasonable doubt their qualification for the World Test Championship (WTC) final. In certain scenarios, even five wins would be enough. With five of these Tests in Australia, India wanted to go there with the five minimum wins already in the bag.

Something is definitely wrong, all through the years we have suffered from seamers getting injured on a regular basis. No coincidence that our golden period coincided with excellent bowlers who also managed to stay fit

Bowl more coming back from injuries to bulk up bowling strength, stamina and flexibility there is too much minimising bowling loads which means bowlers are only being equiped to bowl 10 overs a day then rest for a day no good if you are needed to bowl 15 to 20 overs in a day and come back the next day and bowl another 15 which is test cricket.
it is no good doing sprint training to prepare for a marathon.
Bowlers are just not bowling fit enough anymore. -

Bowlers are just not bowling fit enough anymore.Apart from the nets, is there the opportunity to do that in NZ? It seems to me our domestic season is pretty short compared to others.

Yeah open wkt is always an option all you need is stumps a wk and a pitch somewhere.

Bond actually only took 225 wickets in 60 first class matches which indicates he was injured most of the time then too.
Average was a bit higher than his test average which I’d say was down to some waywardness early on……
But yeah, I will never forget the way he had Hayden, Gilly, Ponting, Martyn etc ducking for cover and getting out.
He was absolute class and woulda been the best pace bowler of that generation had his body held together.

don't jerk off for a week
Speaking of which has a toss been made ?
How is the weather looking ?
Has the starting line up been revealed ?
Did Stead read that article on Santner ?
