How good are the Boks?
-
@stodders I know Grobbies well. Speaking about Andre Venter, his son is also a great young talent in 2 for the Stormers.
To replace PSdT is going to be difficult. He sure is a once in a lifetime player. Myself do rate BJD. He is still very young but he play like PSdT.
From the Lions some great young talents are Henco van Wyk, Quan Horn, his Boet Frankie Horn and Kade Wolhuter. Dobson should have never let Wolhuter go from the Stormers. I am also very excited with the young 9, Nico Steyn. Future Springbok.
Remember JC Pretorius from the BlitsBoks. He is quickly following Kwaggas footsteps.
The Lions u21 and u19s are also very good.

South Africa have some real deep talent in lock and TH fatties. Watching Wilco Louw again on the weekend against Ulster, he will walk into any other international team. Ditto Neethling Fouche. Look at Nortje, I bet JD Schickerling is going to challenge him for aerial lock. All our franchises have decent packs . Lineouts and scrums are outstanding.

Ok, I'm getting bored by the SA love in.
SA are supposedly fucking awesome and we are fucking shit, yet we led them for 98% of match 1 and didn't exactly get trounced in match 2.
When we are awesome & they are shit, we put 50 on them, in the reverse we come within a bees dick of a drawn series on their home turf.
Everybody calm the fuck down.
(Said just slightly in jest)

The Boks are having a good run.
The AB's are slightly off their Everest heights of the past.
But it's not like it's daylight between the teams. Not even ball-hair close.
And the really fun part is... this is not a 2-party party. Ireland are amazing. So is France.
England will rebound - and do so well. The Argies are showing real class.
I trust the Aussies to find a way... and same applies to Wales.
And don't even get me started on those pesky Scots...It's a good time to be a fan of rugby.

@Billy-Webb It is a shame your SA brethren that post on X aren't as balanced as the SA okes on here Billy

There are dickheads everywhere in life
Curiously, some Bok fans have limited memories.
I remember joining the Fern back when Rudolph Straeuli was the Bok coach - with Kamp Staaldraad and that horrendous (and dirty) Bok performance against England being the absolute lowpoints of what was a terrible era.The rugby wheel turns. Not being a dickhead when it's your turn on top is a valuable life skill imo.

I was all set to get offended til you finally mentioned them at the end

100%
The rules now (or the way are interpreted now) make it a no brainer in my book.
If you want to win big test matches the backs dont matter.
At present all talk about backline players and structures means f'all.I'd be tempted to go even further and have 8 forwards on the bench.
Just make sure you have two goal kickers in the squad.I'm a bit surprised all teams aren't packing out the bench with forwards.
Not sayin I like it . . . but if you wanna win . . .

@nzzp Covid mess up your comparison.
Yes it did. The year that SA were too scared to play, denied the all Blacks of 2 big wins
-
Boks have had one of their better years - losing only twice. But they have had a pretty easy schedule so far.
I predict they will be beaten 2-0 in New Zealand next year
-
70% win percentage? Pathetic
-
That 2011-2016 team was almost unbeatable. Stacked full of GOATs in many positions. The only AB team I can recall having that sort of dominance was the Buck Shelford team. History says he won 14 straight tests as captain with a 100% win rate between 1987-1990, at a time that we didn't play nearly as many tests. I just remember his fearsome haka, our peerless forward pack, and Grant Fox controlling games from the pocket and kicking shit tons of goals. Of course, that team never got to play the Springboks as they never came out of exile until 1992
-
@DaGrubster Looking forward to next year two tests in NZ. No doubt this Bok group will target that as their biggest challenge for 2025. To win any test in NZ against the All Blacks will always be the biggest price in rugby.
-
@DaGrubster Nah, you kicked us out, would not allowed King Charles in NZ. Foster would have gave us 2.

Yes the cost of living in NZ is getting diabolical.
