AFL 2024

Mark tonight as the moment the Brownlow officially lost all relevance.
Patrick Cripps wins with a record 45 points. This is the equivalent of 15 best on grounds. Carlton won 13 games. Cripps polled 3 votes in 2 losing efforts.
If that isn't enough, the guy who came 2nd polled the 2nd highest tally of all time.
This award is now confirmed as an absolute joke.
Also goal and mark of the year were boring as shit

@mariner4life Heney should have won both from the win over GWS, might put some money on him for the Norm Smith

Undecided.
A few external factors to consider
assuming you've decided you cant make it happen?
-
sadly yes.
-
cheaper to watch it in TV....and then you wont feel as bad spending that much money when you lose

I disagree. It's more relevant than ever.
The madness is its greatness. Other awards don't have nearly the same level of interest. The Dally M is voted by journos and gets it right pretty much every year, but where's the fun in that?
For all the criticisms of this year's count, realistically it's just the number of votes they got a bit wrong - Cripps and Daicos were the best two players in the competition. Maybe not by that margin, but they still got it more or less right.
Next year we might get one of those Ollie Wines/Matt Priddis years where somebody left field wins it, and the outrage will continue. Then we'll revert back to the superstars but they will get that somehow wrong too.
Which is the greatness of the whole thing. People say they want some boring, impartial award but in their heart of hearts they yearn for the wild chaos that only the Brownlow can provide.

Cripps and Daicos were the two best Brownlow medal players in the competition. High usage midfielders in middle of the table teams is a sweet spot for a 3-2-1 vote system. Umpires see them heaps, no one takes votes off them.
-
the burden of being top of the table and having so many outstanding players taking votes off each other
(yes im going to milk this until at least sat afternoon)

the first few rounds for sydney were funny as the same guys polled votes in different order.
another year where a gun player had an almighty drop off in form that seemed to coincide with him become ineligible for the Brownlow.
-
The funny Brisbane stat was Eric Hipwood polling more votes than Harris Andrews despite it being very clear that Harris Andrews is our 2nd best player, and Eric is a spud.

yeah, the cynic in me says they deliberately dont vote for him so as not to risk him winning but not being eligible...but more likely he let his head drop for a couple of games

Come on now, I'd have those two and Bont as the three best players in the comp. They are the only three who can just pick up a game by the scruff of the neck and drag their teams to the line. I like Heeney, I like Neale, I like Serong but they are all a clear level below at this point.
Those three dominated the Coaches award as well, and the Players Association MVP. It's not just a Brownlow thing. It's a midfielders comp.
Now they clearly should have a 'best defender', 'best ruck' and 'best forward' award (which is what they do in the NRL) to acknowledge that those guys just don't get a look in when votes are cast.

His form did drop off after the ban, but so did the Swans generally in that six week block. I definitely think the umps had his ban in their heads, but I don't know if it actually cost him many votes.

the biggest news of GF week is that
Katy Perry isn't allowed to play her smash it "Roar" as it is deemed to favourable to the Lions. sad. was looking forward to that anthem.
