Team should be named tomorrow.
Can't have God on our side, that would be 16 against 15 .... but where would you put Him?
I would seriously consider naming him at No 8 but could possibly be persuaded to petition for him to take the referees whistle if he promises to be as impartial as Gert Bezeidenhuit, Piet Robertzee or Ian Gourlay.

This whole season thus far comes down to 1 thing. Poss poor planning . Everybody knew the players we were Losing And What Positions We Were Lacking. Weber and McNicholl are both very good players but what use are they if the midfield and pack can not create the space they need. I'm terms of experience at this level Jonah and Billy are green. You cannot replace Buckman and Horrell overnight but whilst your developing these 2 surely you'd bring an experienced player in to guide these guys. Fruean in my opinion needs to go to the midfield given he's had a lot more experience there. Jonah played well on the wing at the under 20s world cup, and what is there to lose at this stage. I refuse to believe the Union never had the money to buy in players they needed. As pessimistic as it may sound this is taking on 2012 all over again. And it's not acceptable.

Ahh yes, Mr. Philpott's first season and he won us relegation! If you want to forget how bad that was just look away now but if you want to be reminded how bad it was just look below
Hawkes Bay 29 - 36 Auckland
Wellington 30 – 15 Hawkes Bay
Hawkes Bay 37 – 30 Counties-Manukau*
Taranaki 22 – 06 Hawkes Bay
Southland* 35 – 07 Hawkes Bay
Hawkes Bay 42 – 41 Bay of Plenty
Hawkes Bay 21 - 15 Otago*
Manawatu* 20 – 07 Hawkes Bay
Hawkes Bay 03 – 44 Canterbury
Waikato 28 – 03 Hawkes Bay
Crossover matches against Championship level teams are marked *At least there were no 50 pointers at home in 2012, unlike the Counties match this time. The Southland result must have been particularly hard to take!

Argghhh, I was at that horrible game v Manawatu. Rain was pouring down in biblical proportions and it was one of the most miserable games I'd ever been to. But at least they got three wins that season (2 against Ch'ship teams); can they -at least- replicate that this season?
Last season, the coaches more or less "gave away" the game v Canterbury by naming one of the most inexperienced selections of the season. Not sure whether it is possible to name an even more inexperienced team this year (the same guys are now starters), but I really hope they won't do that again this year or we will end up with >70 points for Canterbury on the score board. I don't want to have nightmares until the start of Super Rugby.

That is absolute excrement.
The Magpies team was:
15 Dagg
14 Tongia
13 Lowe
12 Horrell
11 Chase
10 West
9 Eaton
8 O'Connor
7 Lamborn
6 Abbott
5 Waqa
4 Allardice
3 Aoake
2 Tangaere
1 EdmondsSubs Fruean, Ropiha, Wilson, Sweet, Stanley, Braidwood, Fahamokioa, Sosene-Feagai.
Was Fruean's first game of the season.
Dixon and Buckman were out injured.
Guildford was suspended.
Boswell-Wakefield wasn't there because he was attending a weddingHow was the lineup some kind of "give away" of the game?
Who wasn't there when they were available for the match but deliberately weren't picked as you have clearly inferred?
If you want to criticise the coach for something, by all means do, but don't make things up.
-
Mea culpa, mea culpa. You're right, I must have remembered it differently than it actually was or it was another game/year.
The biggest point of criticism at the time of selection was moving Abbott to 6, while Stanley was available. There were a lot of inexperienced players in that selection (starters Lowe, Waqa, Tangaere, and on the bench Sosene-Faegai & Sweet in addition to first year players such as Aoake, Ropiha and Braidwood), but I'd forgotten about Dixon & Buckman being injured and TBW being unavailable.

@Stargazer I don't know why you're complaining about the one time Stanley didn't get selected - he had way more games than his ability was worth.
Unlike you, I don't think Stanley was that bad. What annoyed me most was that - because of his selection (in other games) - TBW didn't get as much game time as I think he should have had. I've never understood why Stanley was picked over TBW.
As to this game, I wasn't complaining about Stanley being named on the bench, but about Abbott unnecessarily being moved to another position than lock. -
You guys playing the far better rugby so far. Deserved lead for Hawkes Bay.
-
Amazing what a difference West having a good game makes. Am liking Falcon at 2nd 5 - less one dimensional than Ropiha
