Why doesn't Eden Park host most, if not every AB home test?

Hosting in Auckland would piss off a large proportion of the population, no matter if it made financial sense.
This seems like a rather trivial and insignificant first world problem in the scheme of things, Auckland's a mere 50 min flight from Wellington, we're not a big nation by any stretch, Eden Park should be our Millennium/Murryfield stadium equivalent. It should be our proud fortress and sole host of meaningful home tests, exceptions only for fixtures against tier 2 sides and non-RC opposition.
I know right! Only $500 return per person, hotel, meals, transport from hotel to EP...
Edit* I forgot, half decent tickets are now $100+ per person...
I had a look at tickets for the Aus test in Welly and they are $148 a pop. Ludicrous when you think only a year ago they were $80.
I will likely still go as I have friends that are still keen but I’m sure many won’t be in the same boat financially to be able to fork out that much for 1 seat. Those prices are a bit of a piss take if you ask me.
Maybe it's a different ticket class?

I've seen AB tests in Auckland, North Shore, Hamilton, Napier, Wellington, Chch, and Dunedin. I prefer visiting all those places than only Auckland all the time.
Even Hamilton ?

So did they play in Wellington LAST year, when the tickets were $80?
If you paid $80 for a Bledisloe Test LAST year I reckon you may have been ripped off.

I lived there twice by choice, so have no problem with the place - even Chch probably works better.

The last test I was able to see in NZ was that Irish test in CHC when it minus a billion with frost on the seats before sundown. We won with a late drop goal. Those tickets at the northern end were hella $$$ back then.
I'm sure I went to another test in CHC after that just can't remember but I do remember the tickets were $100+.

Yeah it’s daylight robbery. No wonder they aren’t packing the stands. The media can make all the excuses they want to in regard to low ticket sales but just go and look at the ticket prices, there’s your answer right there.

Auckland hosted two Wallabies matches a few years ago and the second test the stadium was at best two thirds full. Now, that was a Covid-related thing and a kind of last minute change to the schedule from memory. However, it reinforces the fact that Auckland’s market can be saturated very very quickly. For it to be a “national stadium”, NZ’s infrastructure would need to improve to allow easier transportation from other cities. In Europe, it’s easy to travel via bullet train or el cheapo budget airlines that get you to London or Paris in no time but NZ doesn’t have bullet trains and Air NZ has a monopoly over the air market where their domestic airfares are daylight robbery. In fact, I once travelled to Nelson and the airfare was twice as expensive as travelling to Sydney. WTF 😬

@Auckman its also not rocket surgery to say that maybe we only want to be playing each team once a year at home, playing aussie at the same ground in subsequent weeks when people were still covid cautious was always goign to be an uphill task
