I struggle to run sub 3.3 minute 100 metres. (Might be exaggerating a tad)

Yeah. I'm tearing a hammy doing that

    What's a hammy? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Has any country of New Zealand's population ever got into double figures in terms of Golds before?

    New Zealand very impressive!

Finland did well if you go back a while

    Squash is for 80s stockbrokers

Losing wrestling and boxing is disgraceful. The nation directly behind us on the medal table will be furious.

You should be pushing for Squash. Paul Coll is a good bet for a medal. He's the Commonwealth champ. But he'll be 36 in 2028.

Might be a bridge too far for Joelle King unfortunately.

And I'm guessing you haven't seen squash since the 80s.

    It's fast and furious.

And yes, losing the core sports for faddish fuckwittery is very disappointing.

I think the problem with boxing is that it is not the best athletes in the sport competing. The boxers at the Olympics are so far below the best that it is not all that interesting.

They could change that with eliminating the amateur status. Get the absolute top pros boxing it out for a gold medal and it would be worth keeping.

    Fuck no

We need to preserve the amateur gateways to as many sports as possible

Golf would be so much better if it was amateur.

    Is this our final total?

Nope - Ally Woolaston grabs a bronze in the omnium.

Very smart ride - saved herself for the points race and stole two laps and still led the field home in the final sprint - aside from someone who was off the front.

That gives us 20 medals, when you factor in 10 Gold this is clearly our most successful games.

Leaving aside national loyalties, my moment of the Paris Olympic Games was Mondo Duplantis retaining his Pole Vault Olympic title and then breaking the World Record vaulting 6.25m.

As 70,000 Parisians screamed, he ran to the embrace of his absolutely gorgeous Swedish model girlfriend.

    That's a guy who's living the dream!

I wonder if there's anything left for the Americans to head the Chinese?

40 Golds to 39 at present, I think - US with lots more silver.

@Chris-B The USA will top the medal table if they beat France in the women's Basketball final. The last event of the Games.

If France win, China will top the medals table.

The contribution of our female Olympians has been overwhelming. 7s, paddling, rowing, mixed sailing, cycling, golf, the women have accounted for all but two of our gold medals (high jump, kayak cross) and many of the silver (shot put, cycling) and bronze. The men have to raise their game for next time!

Inside Lydia Ko's tearful journey to Olympic glory and the Hall of Fame

Inside Lydia Ko's tearful journey to Olympic glory and the Hall of Fame

Lydia Ko spent 2023 crying in hotel rooms. But in Paris on Sunday, after she'd won gold and a Hall of Fame spot, tears of joy followed.

With the monkey off her back, we might see Lids win some more sooner than later

    Who gets the halbergs?

Carrington and Andrews with 2 golds. But surely Kerr with the high jump gold.

    Fantastic W basketball final

USA win 67-66 with the last shot from Gabi Williams a 2 not the 3 needed

2 massive air balls from France when they had USA ready to roll killed their chance

    Why wasn't Caitlin Clark involved?
