Job done as far as my club goals for the year with the club.
Last year as the Divisional Board Rep, I argued for a Top 6 as we were in a 10-club Division.
This year it was back to 8 clubs so only top 4, but we made it - 3rd in First Grade and 4th in Second Grade. TBH the comp was a bit weaker this year, but frustratingly the players we possessed, we should have been 1st in both Grades. It is no stretch to say we have the depth and talent to field 2 sides who would be good enough play each other in the Grand Final.
Weirdly, we lost both our games to Chatswood in high-scoring affairs. We simply didn't get the numbers there on the day or certain players turned up late and stifled our early momentum. Not sure how to address that, because Saturday work is a fact of life for some guys.
Finals this week coincide with Wallabies v Boks but not much we can do about that now. Just have to go with the replay.

From here it is do-or-die.
First Grade play Wakehurst on Saturday, who we beat convincingly both times during the year. We've got everyone back by the looks of things so expecting a win.
Second Grade take on Hornsby who we haven't beaten - Round 1 we had 12 guys on the park and lost 18-19, and then in Round 8 at their place we were 14 guys and a complete shemozzle, losing 45-0.
However we've got a lot of guys suddenly available now it's finals time so expecting us to get up there as well.

@NTA good luck
what are your rules for qualifying players to pay finals? we're doing the math currently but have had reasonably settled squads so think we'll be ok
prelim finals for us in three grade this sat
3rd grade finish minor prems with a week to spare, 1st and 2nd grade lost over the weekend to quins who were in second....so they overtook us to take the minor prem. the luck of the draw is we now play them again at the same ground this sat as 1st plays 2nd
big mental game this week to play the same teams on the same ground a week later but we should know what we need to do to beat them now

- Must register on or prior to 4th last Round i.e. Round 11 (July 6 this year).
- Must play in 2 separate competition rounds - had a couple of guys who didn't meet this criteria due to 2nd Grade forfeits, so asked for dispensation.
Our squads are in no way settled in terms of consistency, but when your First Grade has the starting THP and Fullback for the RAAF in your team, as well as an ex-Shute Shield lock and a WA Junior rep flanker, it isn't hard to just let them do their thing.
-
ok, thats doable, our guys have to have played 4 of the last 7 games or more than half the season and you only qualify for the highest grade you played that week (to avoid dropping 1st grade players)
so the second half of the season we have to keep an eye on when we play guys up a level to make sure we dont disqualify them from lower grades
-
@Kiwiwomble oh yeah we have players graded as well in terms of majority of last 7 games.
Start 2s, Bench 1s = 2nd Grade
Bench both = 1st Grade
Start both = 1st Gradeetc. Can make a case to get dispensation if they played half a season in the lower grade and so on.
If you have consecutive grades in the finals you get what is called "Open Selection" which means you can pick whoever you want wherever you want.
I honestly think they should up it from 2 rounds to 4 rounds minimum to stop the tyre kickers.
-
Two teams in the finals. That means a maximum of 46 players (or 50 if you know the Competition's Front Row rules )
Had over 50 respond to the availability request, so extended benches have been named.
One guy and his brother - talented players but issues - go onto the First XV bench. "Fuck that brah Imma start or not turn up!"
Where were you at training the last month? Oh wait you got caught DUI and lost your licence, because your brother's partner called and asked you to come over and stop him going nuts, and you decided to drive drunk.
Where's your rego payment? Oh wait "after I get paid" three times this year.
Where's your club spirit? Drowning in your own problems and fantasies about yourself.
So.... OK fluffybunny. You want to be part of this club? Show me what you're made of.
I'll bet it's "not your fault brah"

never gets easier mate does it
good luck tomorrow
-
@NTA yeah, we did that this year and has been easier, first game was painful as i mentioned earlier in the thread, guys doing it on their phone 10min before kickoff
but since then hasnt been too bad
all our our coaches also sponsor at least one players (if they can), i picked up one of our colts who has ended up playing 1s
-
And the two guys who absolutely carved up were 18yo kids of Cook Islander heritage who grew up on league all their lives. Shows where our development systems are at. One of them propped against blokes twice his age and held his own, then absolutely dicked everyone in open play.
I reckon I could take half a dozen of these league kids, weld a small, fit forward pack onto them from a couple of local schools, and win almost every U21 comp in our competition.
-
3s and 2s lost....but had earned the right to have a second chance so will play a prelim this week
1s got up though so we get a week off and though to the Grand Final!
-
fucking furious
our opposition on the weekend received a RED for this huge high shot, our halfback had to come off and i ended up taking him to the hospital, couldnt remember pretty much anything from the day and the whole drive back was just repeating the same quesitons, was that the semi? did we win? who hit me? did he get a card? am i concussed?....then immediately start again, was scary. hes obviously done for the season including the grand final but possibly rugby in general....theyre guy has got off...so he's free to play and max may never play again
-
@Kiwiwomble How when the ref needs to write a report?
-
@antipodean we dont get to see the report because we didn't cite him, straight to the judiciary because it was red, the only thing we've heard is they have deemed there was no head contact....which there clearly was, the cynic in me says its because theyre current champs and a big club and RV dont have the balls to ban someone in finals
