Also watched NZ make a qtr final in mens sport climbing last night. The sports climbing event is nuts, first time I've watched it, its the closest thing I have ever seen that looks like it is straight out of the MCU. Seriously was expecting Peter Parker to represent USA
I think it's great. Something very simple and pure about it - just get up the wall as fast as you can. Or in the case of lead climbing, get as far up as you can without falling.
The best Olympic sports are the simplest. No judging or weird technicalities. Fastest, highest, strongest.

i've watched a bit of that climbing and you cannot convince me they aren't being pulled up by safety line. The movements just don't look right to go that vertical that fast.

Five Golds is an awesome return. Hell we're demanding. Historical NZ medal tables ...
How terrible was Sydney
1 Gold
3 BronzeShit really? I can't remember, but for an almost home games that is a terrible return. I assume Aussie had a big one?

From memory, Sydney sparked a lot of serious rethinking about high performance sport, and what we were doing/not doing.
Any chance 2024 can have a similar effect on NZ cricket

I'd been going to add the the Craps and the All Blacks were pretty mud around the time of the Sydney Olympics too
My memory is that was the start of Academies left right and centre. Oz had one and we didn't, so therefore...

Hmm - how long before Russia is allowed back into the Olympics?
There are still plenty competing in Paris along with those from Belarus. Look for this logo:

Tebogo looked great - Lyles might have been struggling but Tebogo looked like he had more to give. Also he gave a really lengthy interview to Sky NZ trackside which most champions wouldn't do! He's a sub 45 400m and sub 10 100m man - can't be many of them. I think he knew that if he was ahead coming into the bend he had the strength from the longer distance to see them off.
Could’ve sneaked an Olympic record had he not slowed and thumped his chest twice. He has an effortless run action almost Bolt like.

Can we get close to Tokyo's haul?
I think we can equal or better the golds.
We still have good prospects for 2, maybe 3 in the kayaking. I gather we have prospects still at the velodrome and one of either the men's high jumper and women's shot putter are an outside chance.
I can't see us getting another 7 total though but golds are where it's at.

Awesome W 400m hurdles
New WR and Sydney devoured Bol’s soul

Take out LA (Commie boycott) and it's only London and after where we start a decent bag of medals.
There has been an almost 50% inflation in medal events since 1984.
329 now compared to 221 back then.
If we were to stall at five. 5 gold medals now is really (nearly) equivalent to the 3 in e.g. 1988.
