3-on-3 is basically a different sport to standard Bball let alone NBA ball. The way it is reffed in particular. If you haven’t been playing at a decent level and used to the rules and nuances of it, then I don’t think it’s a walk in the park to transition.

I have a few mates who played standard ball and are now on the Asia circuit and it took them a year or so to get comfortable with the game.

@voodoo there was an inbounds play when one of the Japanese guards who was 5’8 was being guarded by Wemby and the only way to get the ball in was to go between Wemby’s legs

@mariner4life the Poles made a bunch of 3's today - quick release off kick-outs and in-bounds off USA scores too

    It's an odd game

i thought a "3" was only worth 2 in 3x3? and a "2" is worth 1, the same as a free throw? So maybe you want Joel Embiid and James Harden on your team

I wonder what the logic was around it's inclusion. It's just inferior to regular basketball on all levels. Not as fun to watch. Not as athletic. But also not that international - there's no countries like Nigeria or South Sudan, for example.

I understand why they included rugby 7s instead of 15s - a better spread of nations being a key reason.

But 3x3 is just a shitter, less diverse and less skilful version of 5x5 bball.

yep that's right, that's why I picked KAT - I never want Harden or Embiid on any of my teams!

Pick 3 long shooting guards or small forwards from the NBA and surely they would kill it

@barbarian if you look at it from a marketing perspective, it is huge in Asia. China, Japan, Philippines etc have competitive leagues with a bit of money behind it. It’s become huge in Europe too.

But it’s still on trial though and that is why there is only 8 teams. But if they expanded to 12 that would capture an African region on its own, plus another Asia team.

I put myself through basically no sleep and watched those two men’s semis. Both were genuinely great games.

France really surprised me with how they locked down defensively.

Then the USA v Serbia. Of all the teams at the Games, Serbia was the one that I thought would most trouble the Americans. Simply because of the Joker factor. He influences the game in so many ways and this morning was no different.

Even with Steph coming out on fire, the Serbians were right there. Joker and Bogey were leading the play and getting quality support.

Then Kerr shortened the rotations and put his trust in KD, Embiid, LBJ, Book and Steph. All of them came up with big plays in the 4th.

Embiid hasn’t done much and hasn’t need too, but this was the game he was selected for. A big body to go against Joker and make the big Serb play D. And as much as I am not a fan, he delivered.

The message reinforced with this game is that if the US don’t send their best and they don’t play to a high level, some of these teams (also laden with NBA talent) that play a more team orientated game will come away with wins. That is great for basketball

I think Steph might finally get his dues on the back of those last two games. I never understood the slander he got, fans straight disrespected him constantly. And I think it had to do with this short skinny guy just owning them with shooting.

But now they are supporting the tram he plays for and they fucking love him for it. It's no longer bullshit, it's chef curry cooking.

LeBron is also a guy people love to hate. They are both generational players, and SC has basically reinvented the way basketball is played now (not necessarily for the better IMHO)

That dagger 3 was a classic case of heat check, bad shot, ball hog, coach killer - and then Yesssssss!

The bench reaction was awesome. Even Tatum was cheering 😎

Arghhhh. The French women’s team so close. Gabby Williams almost single handed won it for them.

The French defence and pressure was awesome. The US were rattled big time. France offence was frustrating as hell until Gabby took over.

Was really hoping for a France win

Would have good to see the US punished for leaving some of their best players at home

If you are ever having a bad day fellas, and just need to smile, watch this!

The first and second ones in the context of the game were the biggest - first one was just after Wemby hit a 3. Then after that first one, Batum hit a 3. Curry had the response. Third and fourth were cherries on top.
