The crowd seem a long way from the action here and rather quiet. Not the standard 7s festival atmosphere.
Just on this I think the set up looks by far and away better than Sevens at the previous two Games.
The field looks in incredible condition and a huge crowd in looks great on TV. Having it at the main stadium that will host the athletics gives it more of a main event feel.

They were fucking loud during the games I watched. Yes they're a ways back, but vocal.
Not going to get as many of the dressups and themes I guess...

@canefan Some of the athletes involved in the 7s will be flying home before the Opening Ceremony.
The organisers have said that they have placed the 7s this early so they can utilise the main stadium and for 'environmental reasons'
Bit of a bummer for the athletes, barely getting to enjoy the Olympic experience

I don't think this is true.
Saturday night (Aus/NZ time) after the Opening Ceromony the day before there are playoff games for 11th, 9th, 7th, 5th, 3rd and the Gold medal match.
In other words all teams play a game the day after the Opening Ceremony

If they are allowed to stay, then great. Free food, free booze, every day parties and some super heavy spading; sex was traditionally known as the parallel games
