AFL 2024

Adam Simpson's future now very much in doubt.
Premierships only get you so far, you keep losing and eventually the axe comes.
-
No longer in doubt, goooorn.

Brisbane avoid the dead cat bounce of a shit team at home the week after their coach got sacked to somehow jump in to the top 4
love to see @Kiwiwomble tipping this week
Geelong beat Collingwood at the 'G, and suddenly the cats are back?
Hawthorn beat Freo
Sydney of course bounce back v North
The Bulldogs beat Carlton
Adelaide beat St Kilda who in peak Ross Lyon kick 5 goals
Basket case Dees beat fraud Essendon
Gold Coast were at home so they won
GWS beat the TigersAnd so Sydney are 3 wins clear. Carlton were locked in to 2nd, but they have fallen back to the pack, and now only lead the Cats on %. The Lions in to the 4 after a 10-game run of 8-1-1.
And then it' still a shitfight to 13th. No one is knocked out yet because the teams from 2nd to 13th keep beating each other. Great season. -
@mariner4life ive started picking smokies to try and catch up....so got 7/9

A new concussion case against the AFL and so they hand out the two weakest suspensions you have ever seen as a "response" and suddenly the AFL is where rugby has been, questioning how far is too far before you actually attack the fundamentals of the game.
Both clubs immediately appealed the AFL's decisions, and i expect the defense of each is the same "what exactly was he supposed to do differently here?". As bad a couple of judiciary calls as i have seen.
-
Yeah I think this represents something of a tipping point.
The issue is more about the framework. Once the two tackles ticked the relevant boxes, they were locked in to a three match ban despite neither tackle warranting anything near that. If they each got a week I think people could make their peace with it, but three?
Meanwhile you can belt a bloke behind play and get one week maximum (unless you concuss them, which I presume now sends you straight to the Hague).
They need a whole rethink of how they grade these sorts of tackles because it's way out of wack at the moment.
-
i don't think either tackle is even a reportable incident.
-
hey google, how do i buy Grand Final tickets?
Lions tip over Sydney in a thriller, for 7 straight, and in to 3rd (was 2nd for a couple of hours but you can't trust North to do anything right).
Essendon are falling to where they really should be
The Gold Coast may as well not even send the first team on away trips
Hawthorn whack the Pies
The Bulldogs whack the Cats
Freo whack MelbourneSeason still wide open. No one properly killed off yet, but you would think the Pies and the Suns are now mortally wounded
-
listened too the swanning as dont have kayo....fuck that was hectic....and the SEN team desperately wanted the lions to win

everyone has a soft spot for the swannies and you're a big fat lair if you say otherwise

2-10 still all up for grabs.
Woohoo Lions. Swans in a funk. Canβt stand them.
Crazy to think Port Adelaide are still in the hunt given their roller coaster season.
-
How do you rank the teams? Sydney and Brisbane clearly top 2 and then... Carlton? Eked out a win over North in less than convincing fashion, you wouldn't want them playing for your life. Geelong? Nope. Essendon? God no. Maybe Freo or GWS? But wouldn't take either away from home.
If Sydney and Brisbane finish top 2 it's hard to see either losing at home.
-
I still have Sydney top, we weren't far off our best available yesterday (ie ignoring the guys gone for the year), and scraped in at home.
I think you can chuck the Lions, the Blues, and Freo in a band just below. Lions are hot at the moment, but i am still not convinced. Carlton are still a bit fragile, and who really knows with Freo once finals arrive.I can't see anyone else really in it, unless the Dogs suddenly put their best together for a month in September. i can definitely see the Bombers dropping out of the 8
-
Brisbane's run home is the dangerous GC away, Saints away, GWS at home, Collingwood away, and the Bombers at home.
Sydney have the Dogs at home, Port away, Collingwood at home, Bombers away, and Crows at home.
Carlton have Port at home, Collingwood away, Hawthorn at home, West Coast away, and Saints at home
Freo have West Coast, Essendon away, Geelong at home, GWS away, and Port at home.
Actually don't count Hawthorn out of September footy yet. Their last are the Crows, GWS, Carlton, Richmond, and North. They would back themselves in for every one of those fixtures.
-
looking a bit closer at the ladder, it appears you'll need 13 wins and a percentage of at least 105.
Therefore you expect the teams already on 11 to make it, BUT
GWS have Hawthorn, Lions, Freo and the Dogs. Two top 4 sides, and 2 sides gunning for finals. Need to beat Melbourne this week or they are cooked.
Geelong are home, they have Freo, but also 4 of the bottom 5.
Port have 3 of the top 4, and the Derby against the Crows which is always a shitfight. Another team who absolutely have to beat Melbourne. The teams on 10 wins need to go 3-2 from here to be a chance
I reckon the Bombers are fucked. Three of the top 4 to play, and a percentage in the mid-90s. They will need to beat up on GC and the Saints, and beat a good side as well. That percentage will kill them unless they can get 4 wins.
The Dogs have the percentage, and games they should win (Melbourne, Crows maybe, and North), otherwise they need to beat one of the Sydney teams
Hawthorn need to boost their percentage as well as get their 3 wins. You think they beat Richmond and North easy, so their September plans are based on getting a win in the next 3 weeks.Melbourne are in terrible form, and i have mentioned them above as must win games for a few teams. THis of course means they are capable of upsetting everyones apple cart as they play 3 teams above them, and two teams that need a miracle to play finals. They also need a percentage boost.
