Kudos to Akira Ioane for finishing on a high. I’ve been a big doubter of his over the years and admit that I didn’t think he had the ruthlessness for the big stage. Well he showed that and some tonight, unfortunately he’s leaving because he should be an AB this year. Bloody shame.

Best thing this year was how the coaches have built depth by developing unheralded players. Renata, Funaki, Lam, Forbes etc.

@Duluth A young Tony Woodcock was on the bench in 2003.

Jerome Kano must be the best NZ player of the professional era to never win a Super title.

Do Collins, Nonu, Smith and Cullen count?

AJ LAM, what a stat line.

Made more tackles than any other Blues back, no turnovers, no penalties,

12 runs, 67 metres (both behind Clarke) and 7 (yes, 7!) defenders beaten.

It’s now showing as 8 defenders beaten. That’s a crazy number for a midfielder

Sotutu ended up carrying the ball 15 times for 36 metres, passing it on 13 occasions and finishing with 100 per cent tackle completion as well.

Let's just hope that we don't have a repeat of some of the comments against the ref that we saw last time. Some of the stuff from the Chiefs fans last year was pretty rabid.

I ended up with a bunch of it in my inbox. All forgiven and forgotten now but stay off the sauce this time lads.

Chiefs ought to be on the trophy for last year. TMO diddled them.

This was definitely the right game to get a bonus point win over the Chiefs. 😉

On the plus side for the Chiefs their scrum is going better than expected.

That was a dreadful mistake there. Just keeps the Blues on attack

Yep, was worried about the set piece, but we seem to be doing okay there. Just dumb options kicking or passing the ball into Row 25 when we finally get the ball.

    Maybe Thompson assisting the scrum?

IMO the chiefs locks have ben outplayed so far.
Luke the only (Chiefs) loosie with fire.
This looks a very disciplined Blues side- hat off to the coaching staff.

The best two AB locks are Barrett and Tuipolotu, despite so many predictions of Vaii starting.

They are too similar. Think Brooke (R) and Willis. Need a middle of the lineout specialist.

    back from the game.

So stoked for the Blues particularly Akira in his last game. He's seen the franchise go from toxic to glorious - to a point that player actually want to play there.

So much heartbreak. 16 years of season tickets, and just delighted to see the team get over the line at last. What I particularly liked was the cohesiveness - at the end we had lost Ofa Patty Dalton; three big leaders and still stayed tighta nd finished strong.

Will write up something tomorrow if I get a chance. Blues played bloody well. Chief brought the physicality, but coudln't live with the blue wave. Outstanding game plan and coaching, low error rugby. Felt very South African to me, but superb to watch.
